Reports to: Regional Press Program Director

Salary: $6,000/monthly, $72,000/annually with a generous benefits package

Location: Superior, Wisconsin(Please note: Employment with the Democratic Party of Wisconsin requires residence or willingness to relocate to the state of Wisconsin.)

Start date: Summer 2024

The Opportunity: As a Superior Regional Press Secretary, you will support the Biden-Harris Wisconsin communications team’s earned media strategy in Superior and the surrounding area, including by planning and staffing press events; drafting talking points and remarks; building relationships with local press and encouraging press attendance at events; and finding and prepping storytellers.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Draft and manage the approval process for communications materials such as press releases, statements, pitches, fact sheets, advisories, background materials, talking points, and other items as needed
  • Build relationships with local press, influencers, and elected officials to better understand how the coordinated campaign’s message can better reach voters
  • Identify and work with storytellers and electeds to prepare for interviews and press events
  • Support the organization and execution of press events – including on a short timeline – by doing pitch calls and setting up/taking down the event
  • Monitor and track breaking news and noteworthy developments in local politics that provide an opportunity to amplify the coordinated campaign’s message
  • On year requirements include working outside of normal work hours; including canvassing and other election-preparation as necessary

Qualifications (Required):

  • At least one year of communications, research, or political experience
  • Applicants should have access to reliable transportation, and be willing to travel frequently

  • Cultural Competency - Able to build authentic relationships across lines of difference, such as race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, class, ability, gender identity, citizenship status, or other identities. Understands how to take an inclusive lens into all aspects of work
