Job Title: Summer Laboratory Research Aide - TEMPORARY Location: Work Type: Temporary Job Category: Non-Exempt Hiring Range: Pay Basis:

Subject to Grant Funding?: Essential Job Functions: 1. Assists in the conduct of research, including the collection of information and

samples.

  • Assists in the performance of tests using routine and special techniques and

methods.

  • May keep logs of work-related activities.
  • May use computers and computer-interfaced equipment to perform work

duties.

  • Provides basic assistance to researchers in recording data.
  • Cleans, maintains, and prepares supplies and work areas.
  • May set up, adjust, calibrate, and clean laboratory equipment.
  • May assist in report writing and/or perform library research.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Marginal Job Functions: Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Knowledge:

  • English Language - Knowledge of the structure and content of the English

language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition,

and grammar.

  • Mathematics - Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, and their applications.

Skills:

  • Reading Comprehension - Proficient understanding of written sentences and

paragraphs in work-related documents.

  • Active Listening - Proficient skills in giving full attention to what other people

are saying, taking time to under the points being made, asking questions as

appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.

  • Speaking - Proficient skills in talking to others to convey information

effectively.

Abilities:

  • Information Ordering - The ability to arrange things or actions in a certain

order or pattern according to a specific rule or set of rules (e.g., patterns of

numbers, letters, words, pictures, mathematical operations).

  • Selective Attention - The ability to concentrate on a task over a period of

time without being distracted.

  • Written Comprehension - The ability to read and understand information and

ideas in writing so others will understand.

  • Oral Comprehension - The ability to listen to and understand information and

ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.

Job Requirements: Physical Requirements:

  • Near Vision - Must be able to see details at close range (within a few feet of

the observer).

  • Speech Clarity - Must be able to speak clearly so others can understand

you.

  • Speech Recognition - Must be able to identify and understand the speech of

another person.

  • May be exposed to short, intermittent, and/or prolonged periods of sitting

and/or standing in performance of job duties.

  • May be required to accomplish job duties using various types of

equipment/supplies, to include but not limited to pens, pencils, and computer

keyboards.
