Substation Engineer
We are seeking a skilled Physical Substation Engineer with expertise in SEL or GE Relays to contribute to our diverse portfolio of projects across the United States. This position offers a unique opportunity for remote work with potential for direct hire or extended contract, providing a laptop and competitive benefits package including 2 weeks of paid time off (80 hours).
Location: Remote (Anywhere in the US)
Start: Flexible- Ideally July/August
Estimated Duration: 6 months with potential for direct hire or contract extension
Responsibilities:
- Design and engineer physical aspects of electrical substations, focusing on layout, site preparation, foundations, structures, fencing, and drainage systems.
- Utilize expertise in SEL or GE Relays to design relay protection schemes and ensure optimal performance and reliability of electrical systems.
- Develop detailed substation construction drawings, specifications, and material requirements in AutoCAD, adhering to project specifications and client requirements.
- Collaborate closely with engineering teams and project managers to deliver high-quality designs within project timelines and budget constraints.
- Conduct site visits and surveys to assess existing conditions and gather data for accurate substation design and construction.
- Provide technical support during construction phases, including responding to RFIs, conducting inspections, and resolving technical issues promptly.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and safety protocols throughout all project phases.
Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Civil Engineering.
- At least 5 years of experience in physical substation engineering with a focus on greenfield projects.
- Strong proficiency in AutoCAD for substation design and drafting.
- Experience with SEL or GE Relays and relay protection schemes is mandatory.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred.
- Prior experience with Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) firms preferred.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote work environment.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
