Studio Assistant Position [Part-Time]
An ideal candidate for this position is a creative person who finds joy and inspiration in a collaborative, mission-driven environment. The primary duties of the Studio Assistant are to aid Studio Artists in creating artwork, support youth programs, assist in maintaining a well-functioning and engaging studio environment, to work collaboratively with fellow staff and volunteers to support the Studio’s mission, and staff the Studio store.
This part-time (20hrs) position requires specific hours that align with Studio need: Tuesday 9am-4pm, Wednesday 9am-3pm, Thursday 9am-12pm, Saturday 10-2pm. Hours will vary slightly for seasonal programming. $16-18/hr depending on experience.
Responsibilities:
Support the organization’s mission and values as well as the goals of studio programs
Support Youth Coordinator preparation for and teaching of youth classes
Assist in conceptualizing and creating artwork in support of and in collaboration with Studio Artists
Direct support of Studio Artists during studio class time
Preparation and cleanup for adult and youth studio classes
Organization and maintenance of studio space and equipment
Maintain a supportive, positive, and engaging studio environment
Assist in preparing artwork for sale or display, including framing
Contribute to the research, preparation, and execution of special projects and virtual programs when needed
Attend to the Studio retail and gallery space on Saturdays
Assist with Saturday workshops when applicable
Assist in directing and supporting volunteers
Attend special studio events (expect very occasional weekend, night time, or seasonal hours)
Requirements:
Experience working in the arts, arts education, community arts, or/and nonprofit sector
Familiarity with a working studio environment and the creative process
Working knowledge of artistic principles and processes
Ability to utilize or willingness to learn a broad range of artistic techniques, tools, and materials
Ability to be adaptable and flexible in a dynamic classroom and studio environment
Comfortable working collaboratively with a diverse group of adult and youth artists
Working knowledge of Zoom, Facetime, and Google Suite
Adherence to the core values listed on the Studio’s website
Preferred but not required:
Experience working with adults and youth on the autism spectrum
