SUPERVISOR’S TITLE: Exec. Dir. B.E.S.T. Lives Center
BASIC FUNCTIONS: The B.E.S.T. Lives Center (BLC) at Benedict College seeks to hire a Student Success Transition Specialist who will provide coordination for all support services for students served through the Center (formerly and currently incarcerated, former foster care, military-affiliated, and adult students). The Student Success Transition Specialist is responsible for recruitment and onboarding initiatives, monitors access and participation, implements appropriate process improvements, and makes recommendations to the executive director and leadership team for program improvement. In addition, the successful candidate will work in partnership with other members of the BLC staff to assist with those who are reentering society by providing support with credentialing, housing, counseling, assisting with searching for a job and educational opportunities. The Student Success Transition Specialist will be part of a dynamic team globally responsible for recruitment, development and implementation of strategies to attract and retain adult learners.
Principal Accountability
Coordinate workshops and events for targeted student populations
Plan and implement programs designed to addressed students’ needs including, but not limited to health & wellness, mental health counseling, career services, registration, academic support, financial aid, and other programs/partnerships and services that will positively impact the student experience
Develop workshops, social opportunities, support events, and recognition activities for students and their family members, employers, and supporters
Coordinate and collaborate with external stakeholders (both on and off campus) to ensure that students are provided with appropriate services
Represent the BLC at appropriate internal and external events
Develop programs and materials designed to raise awareness of issues facing students in the targeted populations
Prepare and submit monthly reports on outcomes and accomplishments of students and of the events and activities that have been implemented
Complete and utilize training on federal and state legislation, rules, policies, and procedures pertaining to the targeted populations
Work collaboratively across other departments and community partners to create programing
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge Skills And Abilities
Demonstrated ability to utilize computer technology to access data, maintain records, and generate reports
Excellent communication skills to support interaction between BLC and other organizations, community groups as well as individuals from diverse and marginalized backgrounds
Strong knowledge and experience in providing effective customer service
Ability to multi-task and organize, prioritize, and follow multiple projects and tasks through to completion with an attention to detail
Ability to research, understand, analyze and interpret complex federal and state regulations
Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate the community partners
Ability to understand multiple projects simultaneously
Ability to analyze problems, identifies solutions, and takes appropriate action to resolve problems using independent judgment and decision-making processes
Proven ability to use computers for business applications, including word-processing, spreadsheets, data management and web-based database and administrative systems software such as Jenzabar, Starfish, and Canvas.
Minimum Training And Experience
A bachelor’s degree is required; Master’s degree is preferred
Ability to obtain South Carolina Department of Corrections (SCDC) clearance
