Story Editor MBN-Zoom

The Story Editor will lead the content production process for videos and digital programs, also develop and assign story ideas to multimedia producers. Edit scripts and social media posts, review multimedia material provided by producers.

Ensure and maintains high editorial standards and that its output is consistently fair, balanced, and accurate. The successful candidate must be a strong writer and manager with extensive experience in digital media, as well as a careful eye for detail and a passion for first-rate writing and storytelling.

Specific Duties/ Responsibilities
  • Manages the overall scripting process from pitching to postproduction.
  • Oversees copy editing, storytelling, and overall quality of content.
  • Ensures all content is ready for publishing with the required level of quality.
  • Reviews finished videos and, ensure they are consistent with MBN's Journalistic Code of Ethics.
  • leads and execute video projects while partnering with other team members.
  • Contributes to projects (stories, films, and documentaries) from creative design through development, research, editorial, graphic design, and delivery, all in an interactive and hands-on fashion.
  • Handle critical deadlines and short turnarounds in a fast-paced post-production environment.
  • Assigns reporters and guide them through shot lists and areas of focus while building/filming stories.
  • Identify and develop unique perspectives on top stories and find angles that make good stories great.
  • Ensures all stories are in terms of storytelling and language before they are published.

QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • 5+ years of previous experience working in a broadcast/film/digital post-production environment.
  • Fluency in English and Arabic, both written and spoken is essential.
  • Strong background in writing, copy editing, and video production.
  • Extensive background of and interest in the United States and the Middle East.
  • Experience working at a digital content organization.
  • Creative ideas for digital storytelling in various formats.
  • Capable of adapting to different styles of writing depending on topic and platform (TV, web, social media.etc)
  • Deep understanding of journalistic standards and media law.
  • Sound editorial judgement.
  • Ability to balance priorities, multiple projects, and tasks.
  • Attention to detail and thoroughness is a must.
  • Proven track record of team management with positive culture.
  • Fluent within the Adobe Suite (Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop) is a plus.
