STEM/Gifted Teacher

Position Title: STEM and Gifted Teacher

Classification: REA

Reports To: Building Principal

Summary Of Position

The STEM/Gifted Teacher position is designed to provide integrated STEM and Gifted programming across the grade levels. STEM instruction includes project-based learning, computer science, and the engineering design process. In addition to STEM instruction, this position will support Gifted services at the building(s). The STEM/Gifted Teacher ensures students’ needs are being met to promote systematic success as measured by achievement of Gifted Individualized Education Plan (GIEP) goals, course grades, state assessments, and post-secondary entrance assessments. The STEM/Gifted Education Teacher is also responsible for ensuring adherence to all gifted education laws and regulations for their assigned school(s).

The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to the following fundamental duties:

  • Design STEM programming that integrates into the appropriate grade-level curriculum.
  • Deliver STEM instruction that is differentiated to meet the needs of a diverse population of students.
  • Provide support and coaching to classroom teachers on the integration of STEM into the curriculum.
  • Attend professional development as appropriate for the both the STEM and Gifted roles.
  • Collaborate closely with School Leadership Team, Special Education Program Coordinators, Supervisor of K-12 Curriculum, and Director of Special Education to ensure seamless delivery of gifted education services in the school.
  • Serve as liaison between gifted education and general education within the school building. Facilitate communication between administrators, teachers, staff, and parents/guardians in matters related to gifted education.
  • Develop effective GIEPs that translate into measurable results for students.
  • Monitor and respond to students’ progress and course grades.
  • Ensure all paperwork is in compliance with gifted education timelines.
  • Ensure finalized gifted education documents are provided to parents/guardians.
  • Provide gifted education case management for students on assigned caseload.
  • Any other duties commensurate with the duties/responsibilities/grade of the post.

EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE

  • 3+ years teaching experience.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Ability to work effectively on a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excels in problem solving, has a sense of humor, and has a desire to provide only the highest quality services.
  • Explicit and relentless focus on outcomes.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:Pennsylvania Instructional Teaching Certificate in Grades K-6/K-4 (Elementary)

Language Skills

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret periodicals, professional journals, legal documents, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, correspondence, and develop instructional plans.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from team members, managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the community.

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to perform basic mathematical concepts in the performance of routine assignments.

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of clinical and technical instructions in written, oral, diagram, mathematical, or schedule form and deal with abstract and concrete variables.

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet but may be moderate to loud at times.
