POSITION OVERVIEW - WRITER, INTERN

HBCU Buzz is not just a media outlet and digital platform, but a dynamic hub for engagement within the HBCU community. It focuses on news, culture, and events related to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), providing various content, including news articles, opinion pieces, interviews, and multimedia. These resources are designed to highlight achievements, issues, and developments within the HBCU community. The platform's aim is to promote and celebrate the contributions of HBCUs and their students, alumni, and faculty. As an Internship Writer, you will play a crucial role in this mission, contributing to the vibrant resource of information and active engagement for those connected to or interested in HBCUs. HBCU Buzz seeks a passionate and talented Internship Writer to join our dynamic and supportive team. This position is ideal for current students or recent graduates who are enthusiastic about HBCUs and have a knack for storytelling. The internship will provide hands-on experience in journalism, content creation, and digital media, in a collaborative and welcoming work environment.


DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Research and write engaging news articles, features, and opinion pieces related to HBCUs.
  • Conduct interviews with students, alumni, faculty, and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with the editorial team to brainstorm and develop content ideas.
  • Assist in managing and updating social media platforms with relevant content.
  • Proofread and edit content to ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency.
  • Attend virtual meetings and participate in editorial planning sessions.
  • Meet deadlines and manage multiple writing assignments simultaneously.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Currently enrolled in or recent graduate of a journalism, communications, English, or related program.
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Excellent research and interviewing abilities.
  • Passion for HBCUs and understanding of their cultural and educational significance.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and digital content trends.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote team environment.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with multimedia content creation (e.g., video, podcasts, photography).
  • Knowledge of SEO best practices.
  • Proficiency in using content management systems (CMS) and basic HTML.
  • Previous experience writing for a publication or blog.
