Departmental Overview
The Isacoff Lab's research is focused in four intersecting and complementary areas: mechanisms of ion channel function, synapse development and plasticity, neural circuit function, and the design of novel probes for the optical detection of neuronal signaling.

Responsibilities
Molecular Biology (DNA): Responsible for assisting in determining method of assembly and designing any needed primers. DNA mini preps, sub-cloning, PCR, mutagenesis, horizontal electrophoresis, in vitro transcription, sequence analysis using standard software packages, trouble shooting, transfection.
Recognizes when the cloning strategy has failed and then optimize each step of the procedure (including primer design, choice of insertion site or vector etc) to achieve the desired results.
Molecular Biology (RNA): invitro transcription, RNA purification, gel analysis
Animal Work: may include oocyte isolation, rodent husbandry, genotyping
Other Tasks as Required: may include competent cell preps, maintaining basic inventory (eg ordering enzyme kits when low)
Tissue Culture: may include tissue isolation, transfection of standard cell lines
Required Qualifications
Entry level molecular biology skills, including DNA mini-preps, electrophoresis, and pcr.
Must maintain clean, well organized work space and detailed lab notebook.
Excellent communication skills essential in busy lab environment.
Incumbents are expected to possess the skills, knowledge, and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the positions. These skills, knowledge, and abilities are typically acquired through a combination of extensive study and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Working knowledge of sequence analysis software (Benchling, BLAST).
Experience with animals would be an asset.
Experience with Gibson Assembly and competent cell prep.
BS in Biology or related science and/or equivalent experience/training.

This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $25.75 - $30.72. This is a non-exempt, bi-weekly paid position.
This is a full-time, Career position.
This position is eligible for full UC Benefits.
This position is governed by the terms and conditions in the agreement for the Research Support Professionals Unit (RX) between the University of California and the University Professional and Technical Employees (UPTE).
