Staff Assistant/Press Assistant

The Office of US Senator Tina Smith seeks a highly motivated Staff Assistant/Press Assistant to join the office. This full-time role is pivotal in supporting the communications team, handling tasks such as maintaining press lists, organizing clips, managing the website, drafting and sending media advisories and press releases, pitching events to media outlets, photographing and taking videos at events, posting to social media, and assisting with the creation of internal materials such as remarks, talking points, and one-pagers. Additionally, the Staff Assistant/Press Assistant will aid the entire Minnesota staff, occasionally drive the Senator, and staff the front desk, ensuring smooth office operations. This position plays a crucial role in executing public events, supporting office operations, and maintaining a well-organized front desk. This position will be located in St. Paul, MN, with limited work from home days.


Qualified candidates will have a proven ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment with overlapping short-term and long-term deadlines; superior attention to detail; exceptional writing and analytic skills; the ability to keep confidences and strong inter-personal and organizational skills. A bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Communications, or a related field or experience working for an elected official or in policy/advocacy are preferred.
