Our Club will be unique in offering not only a world-class professional soccer experience to the community, but by building and running a 125,000 square foot performance center and Right to Dream Academy that will enable us to develop future generations of world-class players across greater San Diego. The construction of this campus lays the foundation for SDFC to nurture the dreams of young talent, fostering a stronger community, and creating a legacy of soccer excellence.


SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Controller, the Staff Accountant will play a crucial role in ensuring the financial health of SDFC by maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, and contributing to the overall financial reporting process. The position requires an understanding of accounting principles, attention to detail, and the ability to work both proactively and collaboratively with other functional departments.



Key Responsibilities:

Accounts Payable and Receivable:

  • Process and verify invoices for payment.
  • Educate and maintain company’s spend policies.
  • Onboard and serve as primary point-of-contact for club’s vendors.
  • Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies.
  • Generate customer invoices and assist in collections.
  • Support with corporate credit card and employee reimbursement processes.


Financial Record Maintenance:

  • Maintain financial transactions in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Reconcile and analyze accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Perform bank account reconciliations.


Financial Reporting:

  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
  • Support in maintaining compliance with MLS reporting requirements
  • Generate and distribute internal financial reports to key stakeholders.
  • Participate in the month-end and year-end closing processes.


Compliance and Audit:

  • Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, laws, and regulations.
  • Assist with both internal and external audits.
  • Respond to audit inquiries and provide necessary documentation.

Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • Collaborate with FP&A to compile historical financial information for budgeting and forecasting purposes.
  • Assist in the monitoring of spend against departmental budgets.


General Ledger Management:

  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, specifically cash, accounts payable, accounts receivable, prepaid and accrued expenses.
  • Keep well organized and audit-ready support records and schedules.
  • Ensure accurate and timely posting of financial transactions.


Fixed Asset Management:

  • Maintain depreciation and carrying value calculations across all fixed assets.
  • May conduct audits, inventory of company assets.


Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with other departments, such as operations, football, academy, commercial, brand and management, to obtain necessary information and support.
  • Play a key role in project management, ensuring timely completion of financial projects and tasks.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates can meet the requirements with a combination of experience in the following areas:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 1-3 years of functional accounting experience
  • Technologically savvy; familiarity with accounting software (i.e. NetSuite, QuickBooks, etc.)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Collaborative spirit
