Marlinspike is seeking an experienced and motivated biologist to join a dynamic drug discovery team focused on developing small molecule inhibitors for genomically-defined cancer patient populations. We are looking for someone with experience in small molecule screening using biochemical and cellular endpoints. The successful candidate will have experience with experimental design, small molecule screening, quantitative assessment of potency in enzymatic assays, cellular target engagement assays (e.g., thermal shift assays and nanoBRET), cellular anti-proliferation assays, apoptosis assays, and measurement of RNA transcript levels (e.g., RT-qPCR and nanoString).
THE JOB
This individual will become part of an interdisciplinary team of biologists, biochemists, and chemists. This laboratory-based role will require creativity and rigor in applying molecular, cellular, and biochemical methods to screen for and discover selective small molecule inhibitors. Prior experience in drug discovery will be an advantage. Strong work ethic and meticulous record keeping are essential.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, validate, and run assays for assessment of efficacy and MOA of small molecules
Use laboratory automation equipment (liquid handlers, plate washers, and acoustic dispensers) to perform biochemical and cellular screens
Perform a range of biochemical and cellular assays (enzymatic assays, immunopurification and immunodetection, ELISA-based assays, nanoBRET assays, RT-qPCR, and nanoString)
Maintain mammalian cell culture and develop screening capabilities for quantitative analysis of on-target inhibitor activity in tumor cells (e.g., anti-proliferation, target engagement, RNA modulation, shRNA/CRISPR based methods of gene loss)
Prepare technical reports, including SOPs, and method development reports
Work closely with chemistry and translational partners to provide timely, integrated assessment of small molecule activity
Communicate findings and present research results to internal and external scientific partners
SUCCESS FACTORS
Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and across partner research organizations
Creativity and rigor in experimental design and execution
Independent thinking, experimentation, and analysis
A desire to innovate and solve problems
Strong communication skills and ability to share information with colleagues at multiple levels of the organization
Job Requirements
BS/MS in Biochemistry, Cellular and Molecular Biology or related fields with 1-3 years of industry experience in small molecule drug discovery
Competency in laboratory automation
Expertise in mammalian cell culture, biochemical, and cell-based assays
Demonstrated capabilities in quantitative analysis of molecular and cellular biology data
Ability to design, execute, and analyze experiments to elucidate small molecule effects on biochemical and cellular readouts
Must be a scientifically motivated self-starter and able to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment
On-site work only, no hybrid or remote option.
