Sr. Payroll Specialist - Hybrid
Symetra has an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Sr. Payroll Specialist!
About The Role
In this role, you will audit and validate bi-weekly payroll, reconcile and fund 401(k), prepare monthly journal entries, reconcile other payroll related accounts, and assist with annual requests from internal departments. Onsite presence in our Bellevue office is required every two weeks for payroll processing. You will work closely with the Sr. Payroll Manager and provide support to the Payroll Specialist.

Salary Range: $68,500 - $114,100 plus eligibility for annual bonus program

About The Role
In this role, you will audit and validate bi-weekly payroll, reconcile and fund 401(k), prepare monthly journal entries, reconcile other payroll related accounts, and assist with annual requests from internal departments. Onsite presence in our Bellevue office is required every two weeks for payroll processing. You will work closely with the Sr. Payroll Manager and provide support to the Payroll Specialist.
What You Will Do
- Review and approve all New Hire and Termination forms
- Perform timecard audits; create, and submit the time files for processing
- Perform preview payroll audits, working with teammates to fix any errors
- Give final approval to transmit payroll for processing
- Perform post-payroll audits in detail documenting any errors while maintaining separation of duties for compliance and audit controls
- Research and resolve employee payroll questions which may include historical updates to timecards
- Process off cycle checks as needed
- Audit 401(k) contribution files comparing them to Fidelity and resolve any discrepancies
- Complete the 401(k) funding for each pay period by the pay date
- Prepare monthly journal entries
- Review and approve monthly journal entries created by the Payroll Specialist
- Complete monthly payroll account reconciliations
- Review and approve reconciliations completed by the Payroll Specialist
- Prepare monthly and quarterly State reporting
- Follow up with Federal and State notices to get resolution
- Support the annual Workers’ Comp audit and SOX testing via walkthroughs and PBC’s
- Prepare basic ad-hoc reporting as requested from HR employees and business units
- Support payroll improvements, maintenance and testing as needed
- Provide back-up assistance for payroll processing using ADP Vantage, which may include payroll data entry, administering file feeds from both internal and external sources, processing of self-service documents, updating and maintaining ADP Time
- Document and update payroll processing procedures, provide guidance and feedback to improve the efficiency of the payroll processes
- Participate in other projects as requested

Who You Are
- Onsite presence in Bellevue office is required every two weeks for payroll processing
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- BS in Accounting or Finance or equivalent combination of education and work experience required
- 5 years of payroll processing experience using HR/Payroll systems required
- Minimum of 2 years experience in an accounting role in Finance or Human Resources required
- Experience with full payroll processing cycle and payroll software (ex: ADP, Ceridian, UKG, Workday etc.)
- Proficiency with MS Office applications including intermediate-advanced skills in Excel and Word
- Excellent multi-tasking, attention to detail, accuracy and problem solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations
- Strong team orientation and customer service focused
- Able to train others and present data in an organized and approachable manner
- Experience with full payroll processing cycle and payroll software.
- Knowledge of Payroll compliance in regard to Federal and State laws.
- Good time management skills to meet continuous critical deadlines.
