Sr. Manager, Payroll (Temporary Contractor)

Summary of Position

Location: Santa Monica, CA or Greenwood Village, CO (Hybrid schedule with Monday – Thursday in office and Friday work from home)

Duration: Approximately 6 months with a target start date of ASAP

Rate: $2,500-$3,500/week depending on experience



This temporary employee will be paid as a W-2 employee through a 3rd party payroll service. We are unable to consider candidates who can only be set-up as a W-9 Consultant.


The Payroll team is seeking a temporary contractor at the Sr. Manager to support the Workday implementation and day-to-day payroll functions at Starz.


Responsibilities

  • Project manage and support Workday implementation project including advising on best practices and participating in user/end-to-end testing
  • Manage multi-state and international payroll compensation and tax compliance
  • Critically review and analyze current payroll, benefits and tax systems and procedures in order to recommend and implement changes leading to best-practice operations
  • Provides payroll information by answering questions and requests.
  • Manage preparation of relevant management reports, including weekly, monthly, quarterly and year-end reports (gross payroll, hours worked, vacation accrual, tax deductions, benefit deductions, etc.), as applicable
  • Audit W-4s, payroll balance sheets, YTD earnings, etc.
  • Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.
  • Maintains employee confidence and protects payroll operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Liaison with Tax and Finance & Accounting


Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field required. or equivalent experience
  • 7+ years multi-state payroll experience
  • Extensive knowledge of ADP
  • Experience with Workday
  • Expert in Excel
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Word, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Extensive knowledge of CA (and out-of-state) payroll principles, practices, regulations, and procedures.
  • Extensive knowledge of applicable state and federal payroll and related tax regulations, legislation, and guidelines, including, but not limited to: writs of garnishment, child support, levies, subpoenas, etc.
  • Experience creating and implementing payroll systems and process
  • Strong sense of urgency to meet strict deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Working experience of payroll tax at the federal, state and local levels
  • Must be highly organized


Nice to Haves

  • CPP preferred
  • Experience with additional Human Resources functions, i.e., Benefits, Compensation, HRIS, Leave of Absence
