Sr. Director, International Compliance

This position will serve as an integral member of the Legal and Compliance team, leading our organization’s operational processes for global import/export compliance. Reporting to the Vice President & Assistant General Counsel, Compliance, this position will manage our organization’s global trade compliance team and will partner with Compliance leadership to design and implement trade compliance processes and solutions across the company. This position will be responsible for collaborating with key functional areas to ensure organizational compliance, including Operations, Supply Chain, and Finance.

Responsibilities:

General

  • Establish, implement, and maintain operational processes for assuring trade compliance.
  • Provide leadership to the global trade compliance team to ensure compliance with all applicable import/export laws and regulations and lead the trade compliance team through talent development, training, and audits.
  • Work with Operations, Supply Chain, Finance, and Legal to implement world-class international trade capabilities.
  • Provide subject-matter expertise and day-to-day, international and local guidance on relevant trade matters, including, without limitation, U.S. and international Customs/import regulations, EAR, the Lacey Act, TSCA, Prop 65, Conflict Minerals, CTPAT, and Mexico’s IMMEX program. Determine when external subject matter experts are required to complement internal resources.
  • Stay up to date on changes in Customs/import and export regulations and ensure the Company modifies processes, standards, metrics and reporting to comply with relevant standards and requirements.
  • Manage and further develop global classification program for import/export classification.
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and processes to comply with applicable jurisdictional law, regulations and policies, contract requirements and best practice.
  • Ensure Compliance partners with Operations, Supply Chain and Finance to design and execute transactional procedures that meet legal and operating requirements.
  • Prepare and present periodic reporting to key stakeholders and senior leadership.
  • Drive expansion of the use of automated systems and technology to implement controls and training.
  • Ensure that record management and retention systems are further developed, updated, and maintained.
  • Establish and build strong relationships with government, sector and other regulatory authorities and continuously revalidate the state of compliance of the business.
  • Lead specialty task forces as needed.

Qualifications (Basic):

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, international relations, international trade, or related field.
  • A minimum of 10+ years of international trade, with a heavy emphasis on global import and Customs compliance.
  • 5+ years’ experience supervising trade governance and compliance roles.
  • Licensed Customs Broker.
  • International trade and customs experience at a manufacturing company.
  • Strong understanding of international trade law and compliance laws and reporting requirements, particularly in the USMCA region.
  • Experience dealing with import/Customs programs in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico
  • Strong working knowledge of business operations, processes, and governance.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to function in a fast-paced, highly visible, and changing team environment providing consistent, high-quality output.
  • Ability to function at a high level of effectiveness, flexibility, autonomy, and initiative without daily interaction with management.
  • A self-starter who proactively identifies opportunities to improve business and operational processes/procedures with innovative solutions.
  • Ability to travel both domestically and internationally, when necessary.
  • Demonstrated resilience, independence, and objectivity.

Qualifications (Preferred):

  • Bilingual - English and Spanish.
  • Experience applying Lean principles to address business challenges and opportunities.
