What will the Sr Claims Damage Estimator Do?

The Senior Property Damage Estimator is a key role within the insurance or construction industry responsible for evaluating and estimating property damage resulting from various incidents such as accidents, natural disasters, or other catastrophic events. They play a crucial role in assessing the extent of damage, determining repair or replacement costs, and facilitating the claims process.

This individual will play a critical role in facilitating the recovery process for individuals and businesses affected by property damage incidents. Their expertise in assessment, estimation, and communication will help to ensure fair and timely resolution of claims and restoration projects.

Damage Assessment

  • Conduct thorough on-site inspections to assess property damage.
  • Document and photograph damage to buildings, structures, and personal property.
  • Identify and analyze the cause and extent of damage, including structural, electrical, plumbing, and cosmetic issues.

Estimation

  • Utilize specialized software and tools to accurately estimate repair or replacement costs.
  • Consider factors such as material costs, labor expenses, equipment rentals, and overheads.
  • Prepare detailed cost breakdowns and reports for insurance claims or construction projects.
  • Provide timely and accurate estimates to stakeholders, including insurance adjusters, property owners, contractors, and project managers.

Communication

  • Communicate effectively with clients, insurance representatives, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Clarify estimate details, address concerns, and negotiate settlements when necessary.
  • Provide expert guidance and recommendations on repair or replacement options.
  • Document all communications and maintain detailed records throughout the estimation process.

Quality Assurance

  • Ensure accuracy and consistency in estimating methodologies and documentation.
  • Review and validate estimates for compliance with industry standards and company guidelines.
  • Identify any discrepancies or inconsistencies and take appropriate corrective actions.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, building codes, and regulations related to property damage assessment and estimation.

Team Leadership And Training

  • Mentor and train junior estimators on best practices, techniques, and software usage.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to share knowledge and improve estimation processes.
  • Provide leadership and support during complex or high-value projects.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment focused on excellence and continuous improvement.

Superpowers we are looking for!

  • Adjuster licensing, all states as required.
  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Proven experience as a property damage estimator, with a minimum of 5 years in a senior or lead role.
  • Strong knowledge of building construction, materials, and systems. Proficiency in estimation software and tools, such as Xactimate, Simsol, or similar programs.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and negotiation abilities.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and quality.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Certification or licensure in estimating, construction management, or related field is a plus.

What to expect!

Our hiring process generally consists of 3 phases.

  • Phase 1: Qualified candidates will first meet with HR for a phone interview. This discussion is a high-level conversation to understand more about your background and interests and for us to share more about Coterie and the position.
  • Phase 2: Selected candidates will then meet our Hiring Manager for the 2nd interview via Teams video. This interview is designed to be more detail oriented and allows you to learn more about the role
  • Phase 3: Top candidates will receive an invite for our final interview series via Teams video. This series will include an experiential exercise project (provided in advance), 1:1 interviews with selected team members and a culture focused interview. The final series is roughly 1.5-3 hours in total but can be scheduled over a few days for flexibility.

  • The salary range for this position is estimated between 85,000-100,000 based on national data. Candidates who meet all the minimum requirements and possess additional relevant experience, as outlined in the job description, may be considered for a salary above the midpoint of the specified salary range. Salary is based on internal equity; internal salary ranges; market data/ranges; applicant’s skills; prior relevant experience; degrees or certifications, etc.
