Our team has set the tone for covering teams in the Los Angeles area and would like to continue working with the next generation of sports producers. Who are we looking for?

We are searching for motivated individuals with great writing skills that have a knack for finding the fun and unique stories, as well as taking a unique angle on the hot topics of the day. Ideal candidates will not only be passionate about LA Sports, but about engaging the digital community on Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube, Facebook, and other emerging social media platforms.

You are the person everyone turns to for sports information and people wonder why you’re not working in sports right now. You have an outgoing personality and naturally include people into your conversations and social circles.


Compensation

The compensation will be based on the candidate’s experience, skillset, and availability. We have a history of promoting within and awarding bonuses and raises based on performance.

SPORTS NEWSDESK CONTENT PRODUCER

LA Sports Report is a leading digital media company specializing in sports content. News Desk writers are expected to have a good knowledge of Los Angeles Sports (Dodgers, USC, UCLA, Angels, Lakers, Chargers, Rams, etc.) and the ability to communicate that knowledge around the topic at hand once assigned. This position can work any day of the week, but is dependent on needs and availability of current staff. Applicants with weekend availability will be more strongly considered. We would also like to work with someone who wants to be part of a team-oriented environment, but is also a proactive self-starter.


Required Qualities We’re Looking For:

  • Write daily articles covering breaking news and in-depth analysis of the Dodgers, Lakers, Angels, Padres, Chargers, UCLA, USC, and other Los Angeles sports teams.
  • Collaborate with our Senior Staff Writer to find unique stories, angles, and topics that will reach a broad audience in the LA sports space.
  • Exercise exceptional research and writing abilities.
  • Possess a genuine passion for sports journalism.
  • Adaptability to a fast-paced environment and the ability to multitask effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • An innate curiosity and dedication to covering the inner workings of Southern California professional sports teams.
  • A deep knowledge of MLB, NFL, NCAA, NBA, and more.
  • Ability to produce articles in a timely and efficient manner. The expectation is that a minimum of 14 articles can be produced in an eight-hour shift. Articles must be 350 words minimum, and cover a wide array of teams in the Southern California area.
  • Familiarity with AP style is preferred.
  • Experience with WordPress, Tempest, Voltax, Slack, and/or Trello is a bonus.
  • A team-first mentality and driven by constant collaboration.
  • Understanding the world of sports and what it means to be around during game time to cover crucial and timely topics.
  • Ability to navigate content and sources to produce deeply researched and factual articles on all LA sports.
  • Contribute engaging long-form articles on sports-related topics, providing our readers with insightful content.


Bonus:

  • Experience working with WordPress, Tempest, or similar type Content Management Systems
  • Basic knowledge of SEO and social media best practice
  • Social media experience beyond personal social media accounts
  • Comfortable in front of a camera reading scripts and reporting sports news.


Qualifications:

  • Previous sports writing experience is preferred.
  • Proof of previous published work in the digital media space or relevant college education.
  • Ability to complete a short writing test using Google Docs

Additional Details

  • This position is located in South Pasadena, CA with the ability to work remote in certain scenarios.
  • This is a 16-40 hour a week position for part/full time candidates.
  • This is a PAID position with a minimum number of quality written posts per day.
