About The Role
We are seeking a dedicated and dynamic Director of Special Education to lead and maintain a new business unit focused on providing centralized special education services to K-12 students across our school network. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for the initial organizational design and strategy as well as day-to-day operations, collaborating closely with both corporate and school leadership.
The primary objective of this unit is to enhance the educational outcomes for all students receiving specialized services as outlined in their IEP or 504 plans, ensuring compliance and cost-effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
Develop and implement a strategic approach aligned with our network's vision.
Forecast staffing needs for special education services and collaborate with the recruitment team to support hiring.
Manage operational costs, provide budgeting recommendations, and work with special education coordinators, school leaders, and finance partners.
Compliance
Regularly analyze and report on special education services and associated costs.
Ensure thorough and timely completion of Special Education and 504 documentation, maintaining proper storage in relevant systems.
Collaborate with the regional operations team to ensure accurate data for state and local reporting.
Programmatic Leadership
Consult with principals and regional special education coordinators to develop, monitor, and evaluate the effectiveness of special education programs, including school visits, regular check-ins, and coaching.
Advise on high-need student cases that involve special placement decisions or unique logistical issues (e.g., transportation, medical services, homebound instruction).
Co-lead cases involving lawyer or parent advocate collaboration with school personnel.
Design and deliver professional development workshops for special education professionals.
Serve as a point of contact for internal programmatic and compliance questions related to Special Education (including services, discipline, etc.).
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Special Education required, Master's Degree preferred.
Minimum of three years of Special Education Leadership experience required.
Experience in management and/or coaching of professional staff.
Knowledge of national, state, and local special education statutes and laws required.
State Certification in Special Education preferred.
