Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced Legal Manager to join our team at Gersh Autism, an organization dedicated to providing exceptional education and related services to students and young adults on the Autism spectrum. This position will serve our NY and Long Island network of private K-12 schools (referral and non-referral schools).

Key Responsibilities:

  • The Legal Manager will be responsible for ensuring that the school complies with all applicable legal steps related to placing and retaining students in our schools
  • Provide legal support to parents, staff, and administrators throughout the enrollment process
  • Prepare all contractual agreements for families or school districts and ensure reception by the schools and accuracy (including Ten Day Notices)
  • Work with special education attorneys and review all documents to determine the strength of their legal cases and subsequent placements in our schools
  • Support the Admissions and Transport Coordinators on attorneys and parents communication and due process upon admissions decisions
  • Ensure all students files are complete
  • Work with each school to provide disclosure documents to facilitate impartial hearings
  • Provide data and support documents to the Finance department for reimbursement by the DOE


Qualifications:

  • Must have legal / admissions experience in a special education setting or similar
  • Experience working with referral and non-referral schools. ABA schools preferred
  • Experience reviewing IEPs, neuropsych...etc
  • Understanding of NY or Long Island special education environments
  • Understanding of Impartial Hearing process
  • Bachelor degree minimum
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
