Summary for the Design Engineer - Fiberglass Recreational Boat Builder - Eastern Florida - Fiberglass Boat Manufacturer

Develop computer modeled detailed design of new models including decks, small parts, and other necessary FRP components. Maintain weight, balance, and hydrostatic studies throughout the development of new models. Ensure detailed design is executed in accordance with NMMA/ABYC/USCG standards and customer expectations.

Responsibilities for the Design Engineer - Fiberglass Recreational Boat Builder - Eastern Florida - Fiberglass Boat Manufacturer

  • Develop detailed 3-dimensional, mill ready surface models of vessel exterior and interior components that execute both the design intent and the scope of the vessel.
  • Provide direction to tooling shop personnel to ensure proper finishing of plugs, construction of molds and fit/alignment of tooling.
  • Provide engineering details for design & development of FRP molds, including construction process, flange details, and assembly methods.
  • Conduct regular reviews of design in order to gain consensus among the engineering group, sales department, manufacturing group and other necessary contributors.
  • Maintain and develop design standards for the construction of vessel and the assembly of vessel components.
  • Provide direction and support of the construction of full scale mock-up in order to validate ergonomics, feature content, arrangements and overall vessel design details.
  • Regularly convey design details to the BOM Coordinator through engineering documentation so that vessel cost can be accurately captured and the cost target can be met.
  • Create appropriate engineering drawings and specifications to source and acquire vessel components from outside sources that will be used in the construction of new models.
  • Maintain an accurate weight study and hydrostatics model of vessel throughout the design process.
  • Provide direction to the Launch Team to ensure proper fit of vessel components and facilitate the construction of installation jigs.
  • Conduct and schedule work so that department schedule and key milestones are met.
  • Participate in resolution of ECN and CAR issues for production as necessary.

  • Bachelors degree in engineering.
  • 3 years experience in the marine field
  • 3 years experience in 3-D surface modeling
