The Opportunity
As the Outreach and Education Coordinator for the Southeast, you'll work closely with key partners and farmers to promote understanding and adoption of conservation programs among Historically Underserved Producers. This role involves collaborating with the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and 1890 land-grant institutions, focusing on Alabama A&M University, Lincoln University, and Virginia State University.
What You'll Do
Strengthen relationships between Historically Underserved Producers and NRCS programs
Develop state-specific communication strategies for Alabama, Missouri, and Virginia
Build trust and understanding between producers, communities, and partners
Conduct needs assessments to identify conservation program needs
Organize partner meetings and maintain strong relationships
Plan and host field days for Historically Underserved Producers
Evaluate outreach and education efforts
Engage directly with producers to support program adoption
Collaborate on developing farmer-focused assistance programs
Maintain project records and assist with reporting
Liaise with local organizations to expand project impact
Contribute expertise to other projects as needed
Participate in strategy development for fundraising and project scaling
Requirements
We're looking for a highly motivated individual with:
Experience working with Historically Underserved audiences, preferably in agriculture or conservation
Strong communication skills for diverse audiences
Knowledge of USDA farm bill programs and NRCS conservation planning
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Flexibility to adapt to a growing and changing team
Experience with remote work and virtual platforms
College degree in Agriculture, Natural Resources, or related field OR 3-5 years of relevant professional experience
