Qualifications
- Must have or be eligible for State of Delaware license and certification in School Social Work
- Two years successful experience in social work
- One year supervised experience in a school setting (may be an internship which was part of his/her degree)
- Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW)
- Knowledge of psychology, therapy and counseling, federal and state education and human service laws
- Experience working with students with social/emotional and behavioral challenges.
- Experience with Functional Behavior Assessment and individual behavior support plan development
- Experience developing and delivering professional development opportunities to school teams
- Ability to assist school staff in the collection and analysis of behavioral data as part of the educational planning process.
- Knowledge and experience with families and allied human service professionals
- Ability to collaborate with staff, administrators, service providers and student’s families in the development and implementation of targeted support plans and Individual Education Plans.

Job Duties And Responsibilities
- Identify students with excessive absences; develop and implement plans that address barriers to daily attendance
- Collaborate with other districts to assist new students and families with obtaining required documents and completing registrations
- Identify and locate Low-Show and No-Show students for the September 30th Count and collaborate with school office staff to document information for the Unit Count
- Coordinate with building secretaries to ensure the accuracy of student attendance
- Identify obstacles that are impacting student attendance and learning (food, housing, technology, etc.) and assist in removing these barriers
- Refer students and families to school and community-based programs (CFF Community Schools, Dual Generation Center, and Center for Child Development, etc.) to provide necessary supports and services
- Work with building level technology coordinators to ensure delivery of devices and hotspots critical to online learning
- Review weekly attendance/behavior reports with designated school staff to determine interventions needed for students with attendance/behavior issues
- Monitor response to interventions for students and families with and without referrals for excessive absences and/or behavior issues
- Partner with the District Homeless Education Liaison to assist and support McKinney-Vento students with attendance issues
- Conduct ongoing wellness checks on students struggling to engage in traditional and/or remote learning
- Manage student referrals, reporting, court and family involvement and follow-up, as related to problems with student attendance and truancy
- Assist with the coordination of services for students and families, as related to attendance and/or behavior issues
- Facilitate requirements relative to state truancy laws
- Monitor and facilitate actions as related to truancy
- Collaborate with school principals and appropriate staff relative to student referrals for attendance/behavior problems, including periodic status reports and follow-up
- Participate with appropriate meetings and services related to students with disabilities
- Provide direct or indirect supports to assist with accurate data collection of target behaviors and positive/alternative skills. Includes the Collection and analyzing appropriate data and prepare reports, as required
- Provide direct and indirect crisis intervention, as well as assist with staff efforts to teach and shape coping skills, emotional regulation and conflict resolution
- Conduct home visits to the physical address of the student/family and provide follow up when necessary
- Ensure student confidentiality
- Assist the school in the development and implementation of an effective parent communication network to inform families of school programs, and school and community resources
- Develop positive and collaborative relationships with students, parents, and family members, and mental health providers
- Develop positive and collaborative relationships with classroom staff, school mental health and behavioral support staff who provide academic and behavioral instruction and intervention
- Provide direct modeling or consultative support to classroom staff and IEP Teams to help ensure consistent implementation of behavioral/attendance interventions
- Serve on student support teams and special education committees
- Develop and implement professional development training for educational staff and parents
- Provide short-term individual and group counseling to students who are experiencing social/emotional/behavioral problems that interfere with their learning or the ability of others to learn.
- Implement de-escalation techniques and avoid power struggles
- Redirect student using positive intervention strategies or positive replacement strategies
- Provide direct and indirect crisis intervention, as well assist with staff efforts to teach and shape coping skills, emotional regulation and conflict resolution.
- Develop positive and collaborative relationships with classroom staff, school mental health and behavioral support staff who provide academic and behavioral instruction and intervention.
