Social Media Manager

Basic Function And Scope Of Responsibilities

The Social Media Manager leads the planning, creation, implementation, and assessment of the University's social media content and marketing strategy initiatives with an exclusive concentration in social media strategies and executing content for enrollment management.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Serves as the primary point of contact for University social media channels in areas of enrollment, marketing, alumni, development, and student and academic affairs.
  • Ensure a strong, engaging, and consistent University presence on all relevant platforms that boost University enrollment and retention efforts.
  • Creates a social media strategy and calendar that aligns with University goals, enrollment strategies, and special events and functions.
  • Drafts and implements social media policy for all departments and organizations associated with the University.
  • Monitors and reports on social media analytics, trends, and follower comments and feedback.
  • Identify social media opportunities for the university across a wide range of existing and emerging social media platforms
  • Identify and implement best practices for social media platforms, relevant technology
  • Collaborate with University Marketing and Communications, Admissions, Athletics, Student Affairs, and other relevant campus partners.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor and University Leadership.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications or related field required.

Training, Skills, Knowledge, Experience

  • At least 2-5 years of professional experience in communications or marketing. Higher education experience a plus. Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Social media subject matter expert with at least three years professional experience being immersed in social media.
  • Strong experience in planning, organizing resources, establishing priorities, and launching creative and imaginative social campaigns, including contests and other strategies that drive user engagement.
  • In-depth experience using social media to represent the online voice of an institution, company or organization, including day to-day community management.
  • Familiarity managing an online community, including comment moderation and tactics to promote positive engagement with a brand.
  • Experience preferred in creating, coordinating, and managing live social media events, such as live-tweeting high profile events, moderating comments during Facebook Live broadcasts, facilitating Instagram Takeovers, etc.
  • Multimedia and design experience, including still photography, videography, and video editing
  • Strong portfolio of recent work

Working Conditions

Flexible hours, including weekends and evenings, are required to execute the role.

Occasional travel to/from other LIU campuses for the facilitation of trainings, meetings and other university functions.

Salary: $60,000 - $70,000
