Position: Social Media Intern

Reporting to: Brand Marketing Manager

RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network) is the nation's largest anti-sexual violence organization. RAINN created and operates the National Sexual Assault Hotline (800.656.HOPE, online.rainn.org y rainn.org/es) in partnership with more than 1,000 local sexual assault service providers across the country and operates the DoD Safe Helpline for the Department of Defense. RAINN also carries out programs to prevent sexual violence, help survivors, and ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice.

It takes all of us working together to end sexual violence. That’s why RAINN’s staff come from many different backgrounds, fields, and disciplines. Our team is made up of experts not only in social work and victim advocacy, but in public policy, law, research, technology, communications, and marketing. You have a place at RAINN.

This internship operates within the Communications department.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Assist with bilingual (English and Spanish) social media content creation, including but not limited to TikTok, Threads and Instagram;
  • Assist with influencer and community account research and collaboration opportunities;
  • Social media monitoring and listening;
  • Pitching social media concepts and content;
  • Work with the Brand Marketing Manager to identify trends and online conversations to insert RAINN’s voice and resources, like the National Sexual Assault Hotline;
  • Assist on special projects as requested by the Brand Marketing Manager;
  • All other duties as assigned.

  • Experience in content creation for 8 social media channels;
  • Experience collaborating with influencers and celebrities in pursuit of RAINN’s mission;
  • Training and experience in working in a trauma-informed and victim-centered organization;
  • Practical experience with DEIA application in the non-profit sphere.

Position Specifications/Requirements

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skill and/or ability required:

Required Qualifications

  • Applicable course completion;
  • Self-starter and independent worker who brings a creative and thoughtful approach to projects;
  • Excellent written/verbal communication, interpersonal, time management, and professionalism skills;
  • Comfort with AP style and experience proofreading.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior social media experience;
  • Prior experience working/volunteering in a victim services setting;
  • Required for academic course credit;
  • Experience with graphic design in Canva;
  • Must be comfortable with creating on-camera content for TikTok/Reels;
  • Experience engaging with intersectional communities.

This is an unpaid, part-time position and requires a minimum of 12 hours per week. We will work with the student and university to ensure college credit is given for the internship, if applicable.

RAINN headquarters are based in Washington, DC. This position may be based regionally for someone whose residence is within the continental USA. This is a remote role.
