Summary
The Safety Management System (SMS) Coordinator reports directly to the Senior Manager, Safety within Allegiant’s Safety and Security Department. The SMS Coordinator is responsible for maintaining and improving the Allegiant SMS programs including Safety Policy, Safety Risk Management, Safety Assurance, and Safety Promotion. This position requires leadership skills and the ability to interface with all operational departments and workgroups within the Company.

Combination of Education and Experience will be considered. Must be authorized to work in the US as defined by the Immigration Act of 1986. Must pass a Criminal Background Check.

Education: Bachelor’s Degree

Education Details:

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited College or University in the Safety or related field; will consider two (2) or more years of equivalent related work experience.

Years of Experience:

Minimum two (2) years of experience with Safety Management or Quality Management Systems with a 14 CFR Part 121 or 135 carrier. Advanced education may count for experience.


  • Knowledge and experience in part 121 operation
  • Knowledge and experience with FAA regulatory process
  • Knowledge in Safety Management System
  • Previous enterprise database experience
  • Strong Microsoft Office/Excel experience
  • Previous data management and analytics experience
  • Experience in hazard identifications, root cause analysis, risk management and mitigation
  • Experience in human factors
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, written and presentation communication skills
  • Ability to handle numerous projects at one time and meet deadlines
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision




Job Duties

  • Act as an administrator of the SMS database to provide routine support for Team Members
  • Develop and update processes within the SMS database to accommodate the company’s changing needs
  • Ensure appropriate access provisioning for all Team Members to the SMS database
  • Monitor data quality and integrity of Safety Risk Management records for 14 CFR Part 5 compliance
  • Maintain a register of all hazard identified within the Safety Risk Management process for data analytics
  • Track hazards, mitigation effectiveness, and other attributes within Safety Risk Management processes
  • Assist Safety Managers in compiling and tracking Safety and Security objectives and performance indicators
  • Assist Safety Managers in generating Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) reports to comply with ASAP program policies and regulatory requirements
  • Coordinate with Safety Managers to maintain and update the internal event classification system and update the quick reference guide
  • Assist in the creation, distribution, and presentation of the quarterly Accountable Executive Safety and Security Review
  • Track and maintain aircraft damage records
  • Track Safety training compliance for all Safety training courses
  • Train Team Members in SMS database, Risk Assessment, Safety Risk Management Process, Root Cause Analysis, and Human Factors
  • Coordinate with Curriculum and Instruction Team to maintain and update SMS related training or reference materials
  • Research, write, edit, and distribute company-wide safety publications and other safety related materials through various media
  • Organize and conduct Safety promotional events
  • Organize and maintain the Team Member Safety Amazing Award Program
  • Verify and maintain accurate and up to date content on Safety and Security Department pages within the company intranet, G4Connect
  • Assist with the development and revision of company Safety manuals
  • Assist in process and data analytics development within the Safety and Security Department
  • Identify and inform management of SMS compliance issues, safety risks and improvement opportunities
  • Perform routine SMS self-audits to ensure all SMS functions are performing optimally
  • Become familiar with various Safety Assurance programs and perform ad hoc data analysis
  • Participate in industry Safety forums such as InfoShare
  • Assume an emergency response role, as required by the Senior Manager, Safety
  • Assist with investigations as required by the Senior Manager, Safety
  • Act as a safety advocate for management and employees alike, ensuring safety remains an active part of the work and the culture at Allegiant
  • Model Allegiant's customer service standards in personal actions and when providing direction
  • Other duties as assigned

Office - While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member is regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, see, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, key board, printer, and phone. May be required to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 20 lbs. May be required to work various shifts/days in a 24-hour situation. Regular attendance is a requirement of the role. Exposure to moderate noise (i.e. business office with computers, phones, printers, and foot traffic), temperature and light fluctuations. Ability to work in a confined area as well as the ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period of time. Some travel may be a requirement of the role.
