You are someone who possesses the following experience and credentials:

  • Undergraduate degree in economics, finance, engineering, business administration or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of power markets and short-term trading experience preferred
  • In-depth understanding of the energy industry, power market structure, and risk management
  • Passion for the markets which has resulted in a successful trading track record
  • Excellent analytical skills (Quantitative approach, data science, modeling)
  • Ability to work in a team environment; ability to communicate effectively across teams, and handle IT-related projects
  • Well-organized and capacity to work under pressure
  • Strong desire to be part of a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment

Activités

Your mission as a Short Term Power Trader include:

Day Ahead / Intraday Trading

  • Execute quantitative analysis supporting trading strategies
  • Develop analytical tools enabling market opportunities identification, decision-making and arbitrages
  • Develop and execute proprietary intraday trading strategies on Short-term Power Markets respecting risk mandate and submitted to Management
  • Design, build and back-test Intra-day Algo&Auto Trading for both asset-based trading and proprietary trading
  • Monitor and analyze Intraday trading performance and P&L resulting from Algo&Auto trading activities


Optimization and forecast

Elaborate optimal strategies and markets arbitrage strategies :

  • On day-ahead, intraday and balancing markets for power assets (CCGT, wind/solar plants, battery) and power supply portfolios
  • On Ancillary services markets for the assets, including optimization between those markets and the energy short-term markets
  • Run and maintain optimization and ST generation and price forecast models,
  • Continuously back test strategies to verify adequacy and optimality, and dynamically adjusting, when necessary,
  • Monitor KPI/P&L resulting of activities on short-term markets (report definition based on strategy and reporting analysis over multiple day to feed-in back testing)
  • Contribute in Pricing and Structuring ST power risk component on commercial offers (for internal and external parties) for any kind assets (renewables, flexible or supply portfolio) such as imbalances swaps, indexed or fixed price tolling, or optional Short-term structures.
  • Interact with numerous internal teams (other trading desks including Real-Time trading team, analysis team, trading support functions...) across multiple locations and ISOs (including ERCOT/CAISO/PJM)
  • Perform impact analysis regarding design market and regulatory evolutions to identify market opportunities


DIMENSIONS

Strategic role for TotalEnergies Gas and Power to become a leading player in US short-term power markets:

  • Develop and Execute strategies for Intra-day Algo&Auto trading for both asset-based trading and proprietary trading under risk policy framework and compliance rules.
  • Be part of the team responsible for elaborating, implementing and maintaining models and strategies for Short-term Optimization and Forecast of TotalEnergies Gas and Power portfolios.
  • Contribute to Structuring and Pricing of commercial offers for assets (Storage, Renewable, CCGT and Supply) on short-term markets for internal and external counterparties.


PURPOSES

  • The job holder is part of a team that is based in Houston, interacting with multiple teams spread across US locations for trading execution. The team will act in an uncertain energy commodity trading context with extreme market volatility due to a variety of factors including worldwide economics, energy resource development, political and legislative changes, climate change, and energy demand. Competitive environment for new business and growth opportunities. High stress working environment involving time critical activities.
  • The position holder is responsible for US Day Ahead and Intra-day Trading on US short-term markets (dedicated P&L). The position holder is also accountable for the pricing of contracts he/she has entered in cooperation with Origination and other teams.
  • This position reports to the US Head of US ST Power.

This optimization of Short Power positions is based on a US framework with aggregation of generation (CCGT, Wind, Solar), flexibilities (DSR, Batteries), and power supply portfolio in order to maximize value creation for TotalEnergies company.
