Position Purpose:

The Shop Foreman - Trailer is a valued team member tasked with overseeing the day-to-day truck and trailer operations. The Shop Foreman will have strong leadership skills, technical knowledge, and problem-solving abilities that contribute to the success of our Chattanooga site and the satisfaction of our customers.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Continuously learn, share, and implement improvements in all processes and responsibilities as needed to enhance quality and productivity.
  • Take ownership for the repairing of company owned trailers to meet our internal repair standards.
  • Allocate work assignments to technicians and ensure that work is performed in accordance with established procedures and quality standards.
  • Monitor and review the progress of work orders, ensuring that deadlines are met and any issues or delays are promptly addressed.
  • Conduct regular inspections of work in progress and completed repairs to ensure quality, accuracy, and adherence to specifications.
  • Coordinate and supervise the activities of both internal and 3rd party technicians.
  • Mentor, train, and supervise technicians as needed.
  • Responsible for the safe maintenance and repair of trailers.
  • Maintain paperwork/electronic documentation of work performed (repair orders) in a complete and timely manner.
  • Communicate with parts department what equipment will be coming in the shop so nonstock parts can be ordered.
  • Maintain a high level of productivity.
  • Other duties assigned as needed.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 4+ years' experience on Semi-Trailer repair and supervision of technicians.
  • Certified DOT Inspector.
  • Ability to perform physical requirements of the position.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a team effectively.
  • Proficient in diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical issues or problems.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities, with a keen eye for detail and a proactive approach to finding solutions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with team members, customers, and other stakeholders.
  • Sound decision-making skills, with the ability to make informed judgments and handle unexpected situations or challenges.
  • Excellent technical knowledge and expertise in all aspects of trailer repair, such as:
    • Basic air brake maintenance: brake jobs, S-cam bushing replacements, brake chamber replacements, and air valve replacements.
    • ABS braking systems.
    • Spring and air ride suspensions: proper alignment procedures, R&R torque arms, equalizers, and springs.
    • Axle wheel end assemblies, including proper installation of hub and drum assemblies, bearings, seals, and races. Must have a complete understanding and knowledge of proper torque procedures for axle nut installation.
    • Troubleshooting and repairing all aspects of electrical wiring systems, including all lights, 7-way receptacles, interior lighting, and switches.
    • Minor body repairs and maintenance: R&R body side panels and posts, R&R nose rails, R&R swing and roll-door panels, R&R roof, and floor sections.
    • Undercarriage maintenance and repairs: R&R crossmembers, ICC bumpers, spring hangers, dolly legs and bracing, etc.
    • Welding of steel components from various positions.
  • Document all work performed in a clear and precise manner on all repair orders using Karmak and Salesforce software systems.
