New Vitae Wellness and Recovery is seeking a Shift Supervisor for our Philadelphia Location.
Position Summary
The Shift Supervisor is responsible for supervising and coordinating staff and activities of the residential care home. This position supervises by establishing work schedules, assigning specific duties, providing clear, explicit, and detailed instructions, and monitoring and reviewing the work on a regular basis to ensure adherence to instructions, deadlines, proper procedures or protocols, and the delivery of services to residents.
Essential Functions
Responsible for the completion of the weekly staff schedule and ensuring appropriate ratio coverage.
Supervision and oversight of the facility
Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of program(s) to ensure clients' needs are met
Investigates and responds appropriately to alleged and/or actual incidents of Physical Restraints, Abuse Allegations, Sexual Misconduct, and resident Rights Violations
Training and continuous development of staff
Counsels with and advises staff, parents, and clients to resolve personal or behavioral problems; explains work policies, procedures, and guidelines, and identifies the characteristics and impact of situations to formulate solutions to work-related problems
Assistance with resident ADLs and IADLs
Completion of paperwork as required by the position
Conducts inspections of the campus and residential living areas for cleanliness, fire and security hazards, physical appearance, operation, and takes corrective actions, as necessary.
Monitors the operation of residential care program(s) by reviewing daily log entries, daily census reports, activity reports, shift summaries, and periodic observation to ensure that policies and procedures are followed
Identifies staffing and facility needs to provide quality residential services in a safe environment.
Develops and monitors performance standards of all employees and consultants.
Identifies areas needing policy decisions and recommends policy changes for consideration by the Committee of the Whole (COW).
Develops in cooperation with the COW a performance improvement plan for the Center’s behavioral health services
Hires sufficient staff, clinical and support, to ensure quality services are provided in a safe environment. Under HR guidance assists with termination of staff when performance deficits cannot be resolved.
Plans a system to assure that all clinicians assume their responsibility to keep all clinical records up-to-date and of high quality.
Supervises operations, insisting on competent and efficient performance of all employees and consultants.
Coordinates the process of updating all Policy and Procedure manuals.
Coordinates the implementation of a Center-wide performance improvement program consistent with board-approved plans, regulatory bodies, and JCAHO.
Coordinates quality management data gathering activities for facility.
Assists in the integration of quality management activities among clinical, psychiatric, medical, nursing, and support staff and with the Performance Improvement program.
Provides the needed resources and training to address performance improvement projects and opportunities for improvement for nursing and kitchen personnel.
Other Essential Performance Expectations
Abides by the employee health policies and human resources policy requirements.
Attends mandatory training sessions at orientation and annually thereafter.
Completes 12 hours of in-house or external training annually; at least one (1) staff development program addresses supervisory/management skills. In addition, attends an extra 10 hours of training annually.
Attends various meetings, such as Medical Staff, Committee of the leadership meetings.
ACCOUNTABILITY
Accountable for operating New Vitae within the approved annual operating and capital budget.
Accountable for maintaining the confidentiality and security of all New Vitae staff and consumer data and information.
Accountable for compliance with all regulations of licensing bodies, such as Lehigh County, State of PA DPW, and standards of accreditation agencies, such as JCAHO.
Reporting Requirements
Reports directly to the Director of Operations on activities and any potential problems, such as but not limited to legal, staff-related, licensing concerns, or financial. Reports to COW and leadership team on mission, goals, and policies recommendations.
Qualifications
Education:
Required: High school diploma, General Equivalency Diploma, or active status on the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Registry.
Experience:
Required: A minimum of two years' experience in a Human Services.
Other
At least one (1) year of management experience.
Required: Be free from a medical condition, including drug or alcohol addiction, which would limit staff persons from providing necessary personal care services with reasonable skill and safety.
Skills, knowledge, abilities:
Knowledge of regulatory and licensing requirements, and quality improvement theory and techniques
Knowledge of how to manage a diverse group of persons and skill in doing so.
Knowledge of current trends and developments in behavioral health care field.

Physical/ verbal aggression of residents
Exposure to household cleaning products and second-hand smoke.
Slight risk to contact with blood-borne pathogens and other contagions.
