Grocery - Service Clerk

Salary Range: $20 to $24 per hour (DOE and state)

POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for supporting grocery store operations by maintaining a clean work environment and organized food displays. Duties include stocking shelves, cleaning floors and other surfaces and answering customer questions about food products.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other Duties May Be Assigned)

  • Report for duty on time and ensure you use the time clock to check in and out.
  • Manage your time, including taking rest and meal breaks in compliance with California Labor Law.
  • Maintain high standards of appearance and hygiene that include clean clothes, nails and hair and no heavy perfumes/colognes.
  • Greet customers, provide them with item information and direct them to the item's location in a store
  • Control inventory and inform procurement managers in case of low inventory levels
  • Discard all expired items according to company policy and place near expiry ones on special promotions
  • Perform stocking duties such as lifting, rotating products, ordering, blocking, dusting and facing
  • Process customer orders and oversee timely product deliveries
  • Supervise cleanliness and maintenance duties around the grocery section
  • Receive grocery items delivery and confirm the accuracy of both order and invoice
  • Oversee daily price changes and manage cash register as required
  • Restocks all bags, packaging and utensils needed throughout the shift
  • Complete all opening, closing, and side work duties for assigned station according to the corresponding checklists, and direction from management
  • Stock and face all areas of the store, including but not limited to the produce display, the merchandisers, and the retail shelving
  • Assist guests with finding products, according to their specific needs
  • Identify and build relationships with regular customers
  • Pack orders for pickup, delivery and in-store shopping carefully, to maintain product quality during transport
  • Ring through and close out all orders in the POS system correctly
  • Have a basic understanding of all produce, baked goods and Gjusta-made products in the store
  • Have a basic understanding of the Gjelina Group as a whole, all operations and their operating hours
  • Review all provided training materials, and continually educate about the products in the store
  • Properly use and maintain all equipment in the store
  • Train and become competent as Barista
  • Ensure proper handling of ready-to-eat food products
  • Cleans, sanitizes, and organizes the counters and store and attend to any spills or messes in a timely manner
  • Ensure proper cash handling methods are used to have a cash drawer that is balanced
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or requested by management.

  • Previous retail experience, required
  • Minimum 1-2 years in the industry experience, preferred.
  • Strong communication skills: in person, on the phone, and via email
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Comfortable working with distributors/vendors and clients
  • Ability to use the point-of-sale system and troubleshoot problems.
  • Ability to prioritize work activities, provide accurate information and assistance to any management or colleagues' request in a timely and courteous manner
  • Ability to keep calm when faced with any unusual situations
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to take direction & performs other duties as assigned by supervisor / manager

While performing the duties of this job, this position regularly required you to stand, sit and walk for long periods of time. Able to drive a motor vehicle. Ability to: regularly lift, carry, and/or move up to 25 pounds; frequently lift, carry and/or move up to 35 pounds; occasionally lift and/or move up to 45 pounds; Bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, grasping, pinching, smelling, reaching/lifting above shoulders in a repetitive manner; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Able to walk up and down stairs as necessary.
