Whiteboard United States
No longer accepting applications

Whiteboard is looking for an experienced Web Designer to join our team. You will create high-caliber design systems and creative concepts for websites and other digital experiences by working collaboratively alongside a multi-disciplinary team of strategists, developers, creative directors, and other designers across the agency.

Our ideal candidate is someone with a sophisticated interactive design mindset. You approach problems tactically and strategically, looking for opportunities to do something both cool and effective that fits within the creative brief and the budget and scope for the project. You are comfortable working within an established brand, extending it as necessary, but you’re also comfortable working within a less established brand that may be in the middle of brand refresh or needs its brand guidelines applied in a new and fresh way or creating brand systems from scratch.

The right individual will have a background in visual design with a strong sense of styles, layout, typography, accessibility, and best practices when designing for the web. You are organized, a clear communicator, and comfortable working collaboratively in a group or on your own when needed, but you’re also eager to receive feedback and critique from your project team and the rest of the design team at Whiteboard.

You’re excited to work closely across disciplines, working with strategists to influence UX strategy, copywriting, and wireframes, with other designers to evolve and develop beautiful designs, and with developers to build functional, intuitive digital experiences and ensure that the vision, design, and true potential of the project is achieved. You’re comfortable leading design across multiple projects and you know how to keep your designs and work from blurring together or looking the same.

You’re excited to work as part of a remote team, communicating asynchronously when needed, both with clients and the rest of the Whiteboard team, anc communicating over tools like Slack, Asana, Figma, Loom, and Zoom as needed. You’re comfortable leading client reviews (primarily over Zoom), receiving and processing feedback in real time, and guiding the client and internal stakeholders through the design decisions you’ve made, always having a good reason for the direction you’ve taken a project.

You have exceptional time management skills and can easily identify the right priorities in your schedule, task list, and project requirements and you’re comfortable switching between tasks and projects as needed.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of digital design experience, with a strong and diverse portfolio of original work — previous agency experience is preferred
  • Very experienced in Figma and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Strong understanding of brand and typography design
  • Strong understanding of user-first design and best practices in accessibility
  • Strong understanding of modern CMS, frontend frameworks, and web development
  • Exceptional at developing design systems, and planning for multiple devices, technologies, browsers, and adhering to ADA standards
  • Exceptional at component-based design, as well as, designing new innovative layouts, and design systems that can scale and be easy to manage by clients and developers

Bonus Points

  • Previous agency experience
  • Experience developing websites in Webflow, Framer, or from scratch
  • Strong Photoshop skills, you can create unique visuals that enhance designs
  • Experience with digital illustration (icons, illustrations, characters, etc.)
  • Experience in 3D design (Spline, Blender, C4D, etc.)
  • Experience with animation for the web (Lottie, GSAP, etc.)
  • Interested in the future of AI and how it can be used in web design
  • Experience working on digital products

Qualities we're looking for

You love learning and self-teaching, but you’re not afraid to ask for help.

When faced with something you don’t understand— you’ll Google it and read a reputable article or watch a video on YouTube before you ask someone how to do a thing, but you also can identify and communicate when you need assistance or additional context to be successful.

You’re critical of your own work and always getting better.

You’re the kind of person who can always see how their own work can be improved — you don’t wait for someone else to tell you when something is off or could be better. You take good critical feedback seriously and you remember to apply it next time also without being asked.

You can edit someone else’s work and polish it up.

You’re not afraid to edit someone else's work or provide clear, courteous, honest feedback to help the team arrive at a better result.

You're open-minded.

You're comfortable working on a variety of brands with different belief systems.

You sweat the small stuff.

You're always watching for typos, and keeping an eye out for the details that others miss. You get that the last 10% of a project is what can make all the difference.

You’re self-organizing.

You manage your own time and work effectively and efficiently. You’ve got a pulse on when you’re approaching a project or task’s budget cap and you’re comfortable working against a deadline.

You can express your opinion confidently and courteously.

You’re not scared to speak up when you disagree, or when you think something needs improvement, and you do it with confidence and respect for others.

You're a self-starter.

You understand when you already have permission. You see something broken, and you fix it. You see how to improve something, and you make it happen.

You're a team player. (You don’t have an ego)

You don’t care who has the idea, as long as it’s good. You care more about the end result than personal recognition. You’re excited to contribute as part of a team to produce a better final result together than you could create on your own.
