Senior Vice President of Development

POSITION SUMMARY

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Senior Vice President of Development is a member of the senior leadership team responsible for developing overall financial development strategies and leading association-wide implementation that supports the Y’s mission, vision and culture. Major areas of focus include Annual Campaign, Capital Campaign. The Sr. VP will partner the CEO and other members of the Executive Team to achieve short- and long-term philanthropic goals..

Hiring Range $120,000 - $130,000

  • Develops and leads the financial development strategy for the association.
  • Provides leadership and manages the financial development team.
  • Responsible for developing and attaining annual fundraising goals in collaboration with Y volunteers and senior leadership team.
  • In partnership with the President and CEO, develops strategy for and leads capital campaigns.
  • Participates in strategic direction for endowment/planned giving with Foundation Board and Development Director
  • Serves as primary associate liaison to the Financial Development Council of the Board.
  • Cultivates, stewards and solicits major gifts from individuals, foundations and corporations.
  • Develops and implements strategies to increase volunteer involvement in all aspects of financial development.
  • Represents the YMCA in the community, and with individual donors, corporations, foundations and government entities.
  • Oversees the development and production of collateral fundraising materials to effectively communicate the cause and impact of the Y.
  • Provides leadership for a successful Annual Mission Campaign.
  • Serves as the primary contact for United Way, providing oversight of the Y’s United Way associate campaign and working with the United Way to solicit funds for the Y’s cause.
  • Prepare ongoing campaign updates for management, the Board of Directors, and volunteer committees, including qualitative and quantitative analysis of fundraising progress.
  • Provides training and leadership development in the areas of fundraising and volunteer development.
  • In partnership with volunteers and associates, develop the fundraising event strategy and provide oversight to planned events that ensures events are coordinated, meet fundraising goals and represent the Y’s mission and cause.
  • Oversees the collection of campaign prospect information and works with financial development to input and track appropriately in fundraising software.
  • Develops and monitors annual financial development budgets for the association and the financial development department.
  • Partners with the CEO and COO to provide strategic leadership for planning, directing, executing and evaluating capital and facility development projects.
  • Partners with CFO to identify creative sources of funding for use on capital projects to include but not limited to Grants, Tax Credits, Federal Funding, State Funding, Bonds, Tax Increment Financing, Historic Tax Credits, Community Improvement Funds, etc.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five years proven professional experience in facility, property, construction design and capital assets development.
  • Five years proven financial development experience required with proven fundraising accomplishments
  • Works effectively with people of different backgrounds, abilities, opinions and perceptions.
  • Ability to identify, develop and maintain effective working relationships with people at all levels within the YMCA organization.
  • Proven project management skills to ensure project completion on time, within budget and overall expectations.
  • Excellent negotiating, interpersonal and communication skills to include verbal, written, presentation, facilitation and negotiation.
  • Able to make independent and sound decisions in a fast paced environment.
  • Able to exercise high levels of discretion and confidentiality.
  • Detail oriented with good organizational skills, and be multi-task proficient.
  • Strong computer skills with the ability to adapt to new software.
  • Must have reliable transportation. Travel around the Greater Kansas City area is required.


AFTER HIRE REQUIREMENTS

  • YMCA of Greater Kansas City new associate training course within 30 days.
  • Performance Excellence Planning completed within 90 days.
  • Working towards obtaining YUSA Leadership Certification.
  • Must maintain a current motor vehicle license and acceptable driving record that meets YMCA standards.
