The Iowa Hospital Association seeks a Senior Vice President of Marketing and Communications. This person, who will report to the Chief Advocacy Officer, will:
Lead the planning, development, implementation and successful monitoring of communications, media relations, social strategies, advertising and marketing for IHA
Work with executive leadership and team leaders to ensure that all marketing and communications initiatives are aligned and support the strategic goals of the organization
Work as part of the advocacy and policy team to build and implement integrated plans and campaigns to increase awareness of and support for IHA priority issues across key stakeholder audiences
Direct the creation of content for the website and social media and oversee the development and production of member resources and communications
Serve as the primary point of contact for media relations on behalf of the organization
Responsibilities
Oversee IHA public relations, marketing, and communications functions across departments
Develop vision for marketing, public relations, and communications, ensuring alignment with organizational vision and strategy
Lead the development of a strategic plan, annual goals, and performance metrics for marketing and communications
Provide direction, coordination, training, and evaluation of personnel under supervision of the position
Partner with executive leaders across the organization to develop effective and responsive communications plans across multiple topics, situations, and industry trends
Cultivate and manage relationships with all media; identify opportunities for earned media; oversee the drafting and distribution of media communications
Develop and maintain a network of key contacts among member hospitals and with partner organizations to encourage and obtain leadership cooperation and assistance for IHA activities
Foster regular exchange of information and cooperation with members
With the Communications team, support and enhance internal communications efforts to build engagement and awareness among staff of IHA priorities and programs
Oversee the creation and dissemination of all IHA communications
Protect the IHA brand by defining and ensuring adherence to rigorous and consistent brand application and usage, driving adherence to established brand guidelines across the organization
Collaborate with the Education Department and other senior leaders to develop marketing strategies and supporting materials for IHA education events and meetings
Internal Relationships
Work closely with the President/CEO, Chief Advocacy Officer, and leadership team.
Work across departments to manage IHA communications, marketing, and PR activities
Manage a staff of three including VP of Communications, Director of Digital Media & Communications, and Creative Director
External Relationships
Have frequent contact with representatives of news media and member hospital/health system public relations staff
Have occasional contact with member CEOs and other members of the C Suite
Knowledge and Skills
Strong knowledge and experience in the development and execution of public relations, communications, and marketing plans and activities, preferably in health care-related fields
Demonstrated experience in media relations and crisis communications
Excellent interpersonal, communication, writing, problem-solving, strategic thinking and collaboration skills
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism/Public Relations, English or a related field
Minimum of 10 years of communications, public relations, or marketing, or related experience preferred
Preference will be given to those with political communications experience
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered
