Job Overview

Sims has recycling facilities across the globe handling thousands of tons of nonferrous scrap annually. This position will source metal from across the United States, buying mixed loads and brokered loads. Job directly impacts the profitability of a region, including global implications, and significant influence on the culture and leadership standards.

Job Duties

This job requires proven experience as a Scrap Metal Trader, or Scrap Metal Buyer in the scrap metal recycling industry. No exceptions will be made to this job requirement!

This is a national role. Work can be remote, but travel to vendors or Sims sites will be required as needed.

• Service company yards by providing market guidance to the commercial buying team and selling products to consumers. Work closely with operations and sales administration to coordinate production and outbound shipments
• Business development: expanding consumer base, this includes both purchasing and selling.
• Identify new trading opportunities.
• Maintaining and growing current house accounts
• Search and develop national account opportunities
• Service regular suppliers with visits and phone conversations. Analyze, research, and execute ways to improve relationships and increase purchase/sales volumes and margins with these customers. Report findings to relevant decision-makers.
• Constant market and trend analysis with the ability to compute the best markets available factoring in timing, transportation, and finance
• Work directly with logistics on outbound freight rates to maximize sales opportunities.
• Service company yards by providing market guidance to commercial buying. Work closely with operations and sales administration to coordinate production and shipments.

Work-related requirements

• Proven experience as a Trader, or Buyer in the scrap metal recycling industry. No exceptions will be made to this job requirement.
• Minimum 5+ years’ experience in the Non-Ferrous scrap metal industry.
• Deep knowledge of the Non-Ferrous scrap consumer market.
• Great understanding of metals markets.
• Negotiate sales, purchases, or other transactions.
• Awareness of safety and environmental regulations and best practices
• Strong financial acumen and analytical skills
• Knowledge of risk analysis and financial modeling
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work well under pressure and make quick decisions
• Ability to solve practical everyday problems and deal with variables and situations, where only limited standardization exists.
