Job Description

Under the direction of the Manager, serves as the primary contact for coordinating Bank of Hawaii Investment & Fiduciary Services, usually as part of a broader wealth team. Serves as subject matter expert in fiduciary, estate, and charitable planning and delivers advisory based services to clients with complex Wealth Management (WM) planning needs in collaboration with partners and Centers of Influence (attorneys, CPAs). Grows & retains high net worth and ultra-high net worth relationships by integrating fiduciary and investment acumen, wealth planning, and client acquisition skills. Conversant in all aspects of specialty assets; may specialize in some areas. Takes a full balance sheet approach in new business development and advising clients including the identification and referring of new credit, deposit and/or brokerage opportunities. Engages in WM conversations, applies tax & transition strategies, introducing Wealth Planners for complex or comprehensive planning engagements and Specialized Wealth Service Specialists for appropriate solutions, enabling clients to leverage protect the value of their estates. Applies in-depth knowledge of WM issues and needs assessment to evolve the advice cycle. Focuses on clients with a minimum net worth of $5MM. Assists in business unit’s compliance with applicable laws, regulations, regulatory requirements and Bank policies and procedures, including but not limited to those related to Fair Banking, Anti-Money Laundering laws and regulations, Bank Secrecy Act and USA PATRIOT Act.

Responsibilities

Develops close relationships with clients and delivers comprehensive wealth management. Retains clients by providing superior service and value added solutions to develop and grow the relationship. Meets individual sales goals by identifying new business opportunities, cross-selling & making referrals to other bank units as applicable. Leverages marketing events and planning tools to strengthen client relationships and generate new business. Leverages contact management system (Blue 360) to log and track referrals and sales activity to closure. Serves as the resource and specialist in advance wealth and estate planning within the Personal Trust Dept. for the Bank’s high net worth clients.

Works closely with assigned account officers and related support departments to assist with assigned relationships in administration of accounts. Ensures that accounts are handled in accordance with governing document, and division policies and procedures resulting in no E&Os. Fulfills client service standards and logs activities and client information through the contact management system Blue 360.

In collaboration with the investment team, discusses the Bank’s investment process, performance and market trends and assists with the development of appropriate investment objectives for assigned relationships based upon client needs, risk tolerance and document restrictions. Works effectively with assigned account officers and related support departments to coordinate client requests.

Pursues enhancement of professional development opportunities through participation in and satisfactory completion of in-house and external courses and training. Passes and maintains all required compliance training. Assists with department and division committees, projects and audit remediation. Maintains behavior consistent with the BOH Code of Conduct and is a team player.

Performs other job related miscellaneous responsibilities and duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution or equivalent work experience. Post Graduate Degree (MBA, JD) or certification (CPA, CTFA, CFP) highly desirable.

Experience: Minimum 7 years of related experience in financial planning, estate planning, or equivalent. Certification or advanced degree may substitute for up to 2 years of related work experience. Requires ability to read, understand and interpret certain legal documents.

Desired:

  • Experience in wealth management with net worth clients of at least five million dollars.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of financial and estate planning, fiduciary/trust, wealth transfer, leverage, multiple asset class usage, asset allocation strategies, and taxation.
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of fiduciary law and federal regulations.
  • Experience with family dynamics or working with inter-generational families.
  • Experience with financial and estate planning, fiduciary/trust, wealth transfer, leverage, multiple asset class usage, asset allocation strategies, and taxation CTFA designation or CFP designation JD designation.
  • Previous Relationship Management experience with high level professional polish


Technical Skills: Demonstrated proficiency with personal computers in a networked environment and Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) or similar software. Knowledge of or ability to use Bank software and systems.

Other Job Qualifications: Excellent verbal and written communications skills, including presentation skills. Should have good networking and business development skills. Must possesses strong analytical and quantitative abilities. Requires a working knowledge of accounting principles and the ability to read and comprehend all manner of financial and account statements. Risk management experience. Must be able to review a large amount of information, think critically and formulate actions, solutions and alternatives. Must possess strong interpersonal and relationship management skills. Must be committed to meet deadlines, flexible enough to handle multiple shifting priorities and possess good project management skills. Able to work flexible hours to include evenings, weekends, and holidays as required. Must be able to provide own transportation or to operate a vehicle with a valid driver’s license and commute as required.
