Century Therapeutics, Inc

Senior Scientist/Principal Scientist, Cell Differentiation

Job Type

Full-time

Description

Position Title: Senior Scientist/Principal Scientist, Cell Differentiation

Reports to: Dar Heinze, Associate Director, Cell Differentiation

Company Background

Century Therapeutics is developing novel allogeneic living cell products for oncology that overcome the limitations of current cell therapies. Century’s genetically-engineered, universal iPSC-derived immune effector cell products are designed to specifically target hematologic and solid tumor cancers. Our commitment to developing off-the-shelf cell therapies will expand patient access and provide an unparalleled opportunity to advance the course of cancer care.

Century’s foundational technology is built on induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) that have unlimited self-renewing capacity. This enables complex cellular engineering to produce controlled cell banks of modified cells that can be expanded and differentiated into desired immune effector cells, which can supply vast amounts of allogeneic, homogeneous therapeutic products. This platform differentiates Century from other approaches that utilize non-renewable donor-derived cells.

Position Summary

We seek an outstanding T-cell and/or hematopoietic developmental biologist, highly motivated to optimize Century’s iPSC-derived T cell differentiation platform. Reporting to the head of T cell differentiation, the ideal candidate will have deep knowledge of hematopoietic differentiation, thymic T cell development, recent thymic emigrants/post thymic maturation, and T cell biology. The scientist will be expected to establish scientific and technical leadership in the lab with an initial focus on the optimization of T cell maturation.

The candidate should have a proven track record of scientific accomplishment and scientific leadership. Management experience is required. This person will be instrumental in establishing our company’s scientific culture and will have ample opportunity to play a leadership role as the company grows. The individual will collaborate with other scientific leaders committed to developing the next-generation of life-saving cellular medicines.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of 2 reports to design and execute a T cell maturation research enterprise in a highly team-based cross-functional environment.
  • Plan and execute the optimization of Century’s stem cell-based T-cell differentiation protocols.
  • Develop molecular and cellular assays to characterize cells generated during the differentiation process.
  • Rapidly analyze complex data sets and communicate scientific findings to key stakeholders.
  • Proactively recognize and solve technical and scientific issues to assure high quality data from internal and external resources.
  • Act as a blood cell differentiation expert.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Immunology or related field with 4-6 years of experience with atleast 2 years of industry experience.
  • Deep knowledge in hematopoiesis, thymic and post-thymic T cell biology with a record of high quality publications in the field.
  • A documented understanding of TCR signaling and activation is desired.
  • Strong understanding of cell, molecular, and immunological assays to characterize phenotype and function of T-cells and other immune cells in vitro and/or in animal models.
  • Deep technical expertise in multicolor flow cytometry, cell-based assays, cytokine assessments, and gene expression approaches such as qPCR and/or ddPCR.
  • Entrepreneurial attitude, with a sense of urgency, determined and creative.
  • Highly organized and scientifically rigorous with significant attention to detail.
