Senior Research Scientist

Arbor Research Collaborative for Health seeks a senior research scientist for the Health Policy and Practice Program who can contribute immediately to current projects as well as contribute substantially to growing the company.


Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

Projects and proposals

  • Lead successful proposals for new research studies or contracts that meaningfully support or extend Arbor Research’s portfolio
  • Expected to develop an externally funded research program related to area of expertise
  • Provide leadership as principal or contributing investigator to ongoing major research projects at Arbor Research
  • Oversee research leading to peer-reviewed publications or deliverable reports, in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams
  • Identify and implement additional ways to translate our published research into improving health outcomes
  • Present seminars and lectures externally on behalf of Arbor Research
  • Lead projects including those focused on providing expert technical assistance to clients or health care organizations, implementation of health policies or health care delivery models, monitoring, program evaluation, and learning collaboratives
  • Provide operational oversight for projects, often including as a project director, deputy project director, or task lead. Work with a Project Manager to oversee the management of individual and team tasks and Build and maintain relationships with project sponsors, external partners, and internal managers and staff
  • Organizational

    • Provide mentorship and/or guidance to research scientists and analytic staff
    • Contribute to strategic initiatives that further program area development and Arbor Research mission and values

    Supervision Received

    General administrative supervision is provided by a program director, distinguished research scientist, or other senior research scientist.

    Direct reports may include investigators with aligned specialty expertise.

    Required Qualifications

    • Typical candidates have a PhD, ScD, or DrPH in health services research, health policy, public health, health economics, biostatistics, epidemiology, or related social science field. Candidates with MD or DO with relevant additional training or experience are also considered; candidates with a Master’s degree and substantial additional experience are also considered
    • Typical candidates with a PhD, ScD, or DrPH have at least seven years of highly relevant postdoctoral experience; candidates with demonstrated success and other combinations of education and work experience are also considered
    • Established research success, as demonstrated by specific content-area expertise, lead or senior authorship on refereed publications, invited presentations, project reports, and/or reputation as a research scientist
    • Demonstration of (or documented experience in seeking) current extramural grant support for research related to area of expertise
    • Demonstrable scientific independence
    • Established success in a leadership role for large research projects, as well as securing funding for new projects consistent with the Arbor Research mission
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills with a wide variety of audiences, including the health care community, sponsors, and policy makers
    • Established mentorship and leadership skills and successes
    • Ability to travel, including international, with several nights away from home per year
