Overview

As the Senior Merchandiser, you will lead, create, and drive assortment strategies for our new private label footwear collections. You will be the expert on customer needs and market trends, ensuring that our product offerings are both consumer-focused and financially viable. This role involves selecting products that align with financial plans and business objectives and requires close collaboration with Design and Production teams to ensure timely delivery of products that meet quality and cost targets. You will be a strategic leader in product development, instrumental in building out our private label line for The Walking Company and Abeo, ensuring that our offerings enhance The Walking Company brand while achieving sales targets and maintaining brand integrity across our online platform.

Responsibilities

  • Develop seasonal and annual strategies for Women’s footwear categories that meet or exceed sales and margin targets, aligning with company objectives
  • Create and communicate seasonal line plans to guide design, product development, and production teams in support of company goals
  • Merchandise and present seasonal product assortments to meet sales and margin targets
  • Present seasonal product assortments to upper management, wholesale, and global teams
  • Develop assortment strategies with an understanding of materials, construction, and lead times
  • Track business performance and identify risks and opportunities to react to current market trends
  • Develop and communicate pricing strategies that align with brand positioning
  • Rank styles based on historical and current product performance, as well as sell-through data
  • Serve as the main point of contact for cross-functional partners regarding calendars and deliveries
  • Provide thorough and insightful analysis and effectively communicate learnings to management and cross-functional teams
  • Maintain and demonstrate expert knowledge of our customer base through strong relationships and direct consumer feedback
  • Maintain and demonstrate an understanding of the competitive landscape
  • Participate in product reviews to ensure design execution meets brand standards
  • Participate in key business meetings throughout the product creation process
  • Establish and maintain relationships with factories in different countries
  • Ensure the ability to accurately cost footwear within the $80 price range
  • Travel to China frequently to oversee production and maintain supplier relationships

Requirements

REQUIREMENTS

  • A minimum of 6+ years of merchandising experience (Omni, International, and Wholesale)
  • 2 years of leadership/management experience preferred
  • Entrepreneurial spirit with a proactive approach to problem-solving
  • Strong relationships and experience with product development, design, production, and buying teams
  • Deep knowledge of the current Mens and Women’s footwear market
  • Established contacts with factories in different countries
  • Ability to accurately cost footwear within the $80 price range
  • Willingness to travel to China often
  • Natural leader with a growth mindset
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Strong proficiency in Excel

The base salary range for this position is $110,000-$125,000 per year, which represents the current range for this exempt position. Actual salaries will vary based on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance.
