Who We Are:

Kode With Klossy (KWK) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization working to close the persistent racial and gender equity gaps in the technology industry. Since launching in 2015, Kode With Klossy has cultivated a technical skills-based community of nearly 10,000 young women and gender expansive youth through its unique approach to coding education. All of Kode With Klossy’s education programs are 100% free of charge. In addition to its flagship 2-week summer camps, Kode With Klossy has 2-day “Code-a-brations” in the spring and fall as well as virtual coding challenges all year long. Klossy's differentiated impact is the stickiness of its community over time. While the onramp to the community are programs Kode With Klossy has designed for young people 13-18 years old, today over half of community members are 18 and over. By providing ongoing learning experiences and opportunities, Kode With Klossy is the retention engine that supports community members across their education and career milestones in tech.

At Kode With Klossy, equitable and inspiring curricula is at the center and heart of what we do. The following are our curriculum pillars.

  • Fruitful challenges. The philosophy and deep-rooted understanding that what we’re learning is rigorous and challenging, in the best way possible.
  • Real-code. We believe in rigor: we teach our scholars the same syntax and skills that a software engineer sees.
  • Responsible tech. In the development of our curriculum, we believe that we are training the future CTOs, start-up founders, and leaders of technology. This means creating curricula contextualized with a lens of diversity and equity, with the goal of creating technology that is accessible to all.
  • Creative project-based learning. We believe one of the strongest checks for understanding is through real-world personal projects that incorporate the skills they learn throughout the curriculum to hone their creativity.
  • Final capstone. Our curricula culminate in a final project, where scholars work through a collaborative and iterative framework, to complete a start-to-finish minimum viable product focused on a topic they are passionate about. The final project highlights the intersection of technology with other industries where scholars delve deeper into their personal passions.
