Senior Manager, Business Development

The National Sleep Foundation (NSF) seeks a motivated and detail-oriented professional for the role of Senior Manager of Business Development. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of relevant experience in business development, project management, partnership revenue programs, and/or collaborative marketing and communications. This position will report to the Senior Vice President of Operations & Enterprise Strategy and work with staff, external consultants and communications agencies.


As the global voice for sleep health, National Sleep Foundation advances sleep health and well-being through its established research, advocacy, and education programs. The Business Development Senior Manager will be responsible for identifying, cultivating, and developing new funding sources to support NSF’s programming and content distribution. This position is responsible for maintaining a business development database of contacts, assessing opportunities, developing programming ideas and proposals for strategic partnerships that align with and advance NSF’s mission and purpose. The ideal candidate has best-in-class project management, organizational and planning skills and very strong written and verbal communication. They are a relationship-builder and have experience managing effective collaborations. This position has significant opportunity for growth and increased responsibility.

Key Objectives and Responsibilities:

- Help meet organizational revenue generation goals

- Organize and track initiatives, campaigns, and fundraising efforts

- Identify potential funding sources, prepare and submit fundraising applications and proposals toward organization fundraising goals

- Weekly reporting on communications (emails, phone calls), new leads, and proposals

- Work with NSF staff across functions to develop strategies and plans to grow corporate sponsorships, network memberships, partnerships, and other engagements to fund priority initiatives

- Input and maintain all business development data daily including accounts, contacts, and communications using Salesforce and Excel

- Generate targeted emails, proposals and presentations, and other tactics to effectively attract funding 

- Apply expert project management and reporting skills to track performance against set KPIs

- Lead market assessments and research potential funders for strategic fit and cultural alignment

- Identify opportunities for organic growth within existing relationships

- Collaborate internally and externally with marketing communications and public relations contacts to engage new partners, develop, and execute programs

- Create an executional plan for new partnerships, including progress tracking and reporting

- Demonstrate expert execution and command for all aspects of programs including planning, timelines, logistics, budgets, and content

- Ensure that programs and partnerships are consistent with NSF’s sleep and public health mission, and commitment to improving sleep health equity for historically underserved groups of people


Desired skills and experience:

- At least 5 years of direct experience in project management, marketing communications, business or a related field, supported by a college degree in a relevant area of study

- Strong project management skills; detail-oriented and highly organized

- Excellent communication, writing, and presentation skills

- Expertise in leading initiatives, campaigns and fundraising efforts

- Strong entrepreneurial skills with excellent business judgement and problem-solving abilities

- Track record of establishing, maintaining and growing key partnerships in an industry, agency, or nonprofit setting

- Ability to respond quickly and effectively to the needs of internal and external stakeholders

- Demonstrated flexibility in meeting shifting demands and priorities

- Self-motivated, eager to learn, benchmark driven

- Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

- Salesforce experience is a plus, but not required
