Senior Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor - Remote | WFH

Job Overview

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Senior Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor to join our team. This role involves providing a full range of mental health services to complex and high-need patients. You will have the opportunity to make a significant impact through comprehensive, evidence-based interventions, and by educating patients and their families. You will also provide consultation to professional staff and community providers to ensure the best treatment plans for patients.

Clinical Responsibilities

Deliver a wide range of mental health services tailored to your professional discipline, particularly for complex or unusually difficult cases.

Provide education and support to patients, their families, and significant others.

Implement and document comprehensive, evidence-based interventions.

Offer consultation to professional staff and community providers on clinical assessment findings and treatment plans.

Develop, implement, and document mental health treatment plans for an assigned caseload of patients, ensuring timely completion of clinical reminders.

Work Schedule

Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM

Telework: Available on an ad-hoc basis

Requirements

Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen.

Drug Screening: Subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse will be denied employment.

Selective Service Registration: Required for males born after 12/31/1959.

Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in written and spoken English.

Probationary Period: You may be required to serve a probationary period.

Background Investigation: Subject to background/security investigation.

Onboarding: Selected applicants will need to complete an online onboarding process.

Pre-Employment Physical Examination: Must pass.

Vaccination Requirements: Participation in seasonal influenza and COVID-19 vaccination programs is mandatory.

Qualifications

Education: Must hold a master's or doctoral degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling, or a related field from a program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP).

Licensure: Must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to independently practice as a Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor (LPMHC).

Experience: For the Senior LPMHC role (GS-12), at least one year of progressively complex experience equivalent to the GS-11 level is required, plus five years of post-licensed experience demonstrating advanced practice skills and judgment.

Skills And Abilities

Mastery of theories and modalities used in treating complex mental illness.

Ability to incorporate complex causation in differential diagnosis and treatment.

Proficiency in specialized interventions and treatment modalities.

Ability to coordinate delivery of psychosocial services and design system changes.

Expertise in teaching, mentoring, and providing supervision for licensure or specialty certifications.

Effective communication with leadership, staff, and community stakeholders.

Physical Requirements

The role is moderately active, involving driving, walking, and standing. Some light exertion may be required for tasks such as bending, climbing stairs, and carrying light items.

Ability to sit/stand for long periods and lift up to 20 lbs.

Completion of a Basic Life Support (BLS) course is a requirement.

Additional Information

Education Verification: Only degrees recognized by the U.S. Department of Education will be considered. Foreign education must be accompanied by a Certificate of Foreign Equivalency.

Service Credit and Annual Leave: Federal employees earn annual leave based on their length of service. Prior work experience or military service may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual.
