Job Summary

Hiring on as a leader in the Production Support team within Construction Support Services, with the possibility of a hybrid in-person/remote work schedule. This Senior Lean Manager role champions internal improvement initiatives, supports Lean implementation on projects, and advises senior leadership of recommended action related to the Construction Support Services mission across the company. Anticipated travel is up to 50%. This position can be based out of any Flintco office Austin, Denver, Houston, Memphis, Oklahoma City, Springdale or Tulsa. The Senior Lean Manager role reports to the Director of Production Support.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Broker and direct all in-house and external resources required for Lean program management, including: strategic planning, implementation, sustainment, inter-departmental integration throughout the organization, assessment of program effectiveness for continuous improvement and document governance
  • Manage multiple complex internal projects across organizational and functional boundaries simultaneously and help management prioritize effort for future initiatives
  • Partner with Flintco Lean community of practitioners (CoP), supporting operations staff fulfilling Lean Mentor, Coach and Champion roles
  • Perform or assign resources to collect, analyze and interpret project data to identify detailed and summary-level performance trends and potential risk to the company. Advise senior leadership in short-, mid- and long-term planning to improve project performance
  • Mentors and assists project staff in Lean activities, implementation, and maintenance of Lean practices through a lead/co-facilitate/coach model. Key facilitation for this role includes project startup/kickoff meetings and After Action Reviews (AAR).
  • Develop curriculum and provide educational presentations to internal and external users on Lean2.0®, specific Lean practices, or introductory Lean knowledge.
  • Support and engage with in steering committees related to initiatives housed within functional area
  • Keeps management team abreast of significant issues or developments identified during program activities and corrective/preventative actions are taken to assure continuous process improvement.
  • Engage in implementation and effectiveness of Production Support processes, initiatives and digital platforms. Assists other Flintco departments with technical support in area of expertise, including presentation and training
  • Support external marketing/selling efforts and establish effective partnerships within the enterprise as well as within industry organizations
  • Follows and enforces Safety Rules and Practices
  • Stop work if necessary to resolve matters that affect safety, quality and/or inhibit the logical progress of work
  • Passion for long-term team and people development, both within CSS and the organization at large.
  • Looks for opportunities to drive improvement through proven and innovative practices, and through inclusion of Virtual Design & Construction (VDC), Construction Field Technology (CFT),Quality workgroups

Management Responsibilities

  • Manage technical subject matter experts skillsets and workloads to support projects at all phases
  • Manage and develop staff with desire and competency to manage direct reports
  • Integrate support processes with other functional areas of Construction Support Services
  • Manage remote and traveling employees, some of whom may be project-based

Knowledge/Skills/Ability

  • Able to effectively prioritize and manage tasks to completion independently with limited oversight
  • Curious and skeptical, willing to challenge assumptions, question approaches, and able to engage in positive conflict when required for collective success of team objectives.
  • Able to apply PDCA cycle and utilize structured problem-solving approach(es) to variety of operational and business processes for continuous improvement
  • Strong organizational, analytical and project management skills, including the ability to identify trends and complete root cause analysis.
  • Understands major scopes of commercial construction work, logistics, techniques, materials, equipment, crew sizing and sequencing

Education

  • B.S. Degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience

  • Experience with data analysis and modeling, and developing performance metrics
  • Experience managing projects from planning through post-completion, including project schedule oversight
  • Proficiency with Lean construction practices, including Last Planner System®
  • Familiarity with commercial and/or industrial construction processes and procedures
  • Familiarity with commercial construction market in geographic area

Preferred Characteristics

  • Familiarity with utilizing A3s for documentation, problem-solving and strategic planning
  • Experience in operational excellence, continuous improvement and/or process improvement or Agile methodology.
  • Experience with implementing and sustaining multi-trade prefabrication and/or modularization
  • Experience with Touchplan or similar digital collaborative planning platforms

  • May be required to work long hours for extended periods of time.

Special Job Dimensions

The office provides a safe and healthy work environment, is adequately heated and cooled, is free from exposure and extreme conditions, has appropriate lighting and office furnishings, and is smoke-free and drug-free. While performing the duties of this position in the fabrication shop, warehouse, maintenance shop or at a project site, the employee could be regularly exposed to any number of the following, including, but not limited to: moving mechanical parts; moving machinery; high, precarious places (including, but not limited to, being raised several hundred feet in a bucket); close tight quarters; rough and sloped terrain; fumes or airborne particles; drilling and blasting activities; welding activities; toxic or caustic chemicals; the potential of falling rock; and outside weather conditions. The employee may be occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is generally loud.

  • NOTE – Where allowed employees who work in positions classified as “safety-sensitive” can be disciplined if they test positive for marijuana or its metabolites, even if they have a valid state medical marijuana license. In addition, Flintco may also refuse to hire applicants for safety-sensitive jobs who test positive for marijuana as part of a pre-employment drug test, even if those applicants can produce a valid medical marijuana patient license.
