Senior Instructor / Scientific Writer -- Remote | WFH

Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Research Development Professional (Scientific Writer) to join our Department of Immunology and Microbiology (I&M). In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for effectively communicating proposed and completed research through grant proposals, manuscripts, and other scientific documents. You will mentor and guide faculty, staff, and trainees in conveying their research clearly and impactfully to a broad scientific audience.

Key Responsibilities

Collaborate with investigators to develop, write, and revise research grant proposals for various funding agencies such as NIH, NSF, DOD, and foundations.

Provide constructive feedback to improve the clarity, logic, and persuasiveness of grant proposals.

Advise on best strategies to convey the significance, impact, and innovation of research plans, aligning with sponsor requirements.

Assist investigators in responding to critiques for grant proposal resubmissions and manuscript submissions.

Maintain and update documents that describe I&M capabilities to support grant applications.

For program applications, design a strategy using I&M capabilities and work with principal investigators to implement this strategy in proposals.

Develop scientific and medical manuscripts or other documents as appropriate.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with investigators.

Keep up-to-date with funding opportunities and the priorities, preferences, and policies of primary funding sources.

Communicate sponsor requirements clearly and effectively in collaboration with pre-award and post-award teams.

Build and maintain trust and rapport with faculty and staff as a subject matter expert in scientific writing.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree in Biomedical Sciences with an emphasis in Immunology or Microbiology.

15+ years of professional experience in scientific and medical writing, particularly for grants and peer-reviewed manuscripts.

Proven track record of successfully communicating research to diverse audiences.

Expertise in guiding others through the manuscript writing process.

Publication history of 15+ manuscripts in various journals.

Experience contributing to multiple funded grant applications.

Preferred Qualifications

Ph.D. in a quantitative discipline.

Formal training in providing academic writing support.

Familiarity with major federal funding agencies (e.g., NIH, NSF).

Experience in higher education or large hospital settings.

Experience as an independent consultant or medical writer.

Skills And Abilities

Excellent critical analysis and communication skills.

Ability to quickly acquire knowledge in various scientific, medical, and academic fields.

Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.

Experience in conveying the impact of scientific work to a scientific audience.

Ability to provide constructive feedback respectfully and effectively.

Anticipated Pay Range

The starting salary range for this position is $85,000-$110,000. This range represents our good faith estimate of the possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless non-exempt.
