Senior Financial Accountant Duties and Responsibilities

The Senior Financial Accountant will oversee the daily operations of the Finance department, including:

  • Managing month and end-year processes.
  • Maintaining the General Ledger.
  • Reconciling capital assets.
  • Handling debt activity.
  • Managing fixed assets and lease activity.
  • Conducting batching processes.

Additionally, responsibilities include:

  • Assisting the Controller with workflow process improvement and special projects.
  • Ensuring the finance team meets all financial reporting deadlines.
  • Ensuring all accounting processes align with GAAP standards.
  • Recording, verifying, consolidating, and entering financial data and transactions into the ledger to ensure data integrity.
  • Maintaining the general ledger by transferring subsidiary accounts, preparing trial balances, and reconciling entries.
  • Reviewing financial documents for accuracy and reconciling accounts.
  • Ensuring accuracy and timeliness of month-end close and reports.
  • Assisting in the preparation of annual and quarterly financial statements related to the company's debt securitization and debt covenant compliance.
  • Providing support to tax accountants by gathering and providing data.
  • Assisting auditors, controllers, and other financial professionals as needed.
  • Preparing financial reports such as cash flow statements and accounts payable and receivable aging lists.
  • Creating reports to track and analyze trends in business performance over time.
  • Assisting in preparing budgets and forecasts for future financial performance of the company or organization.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills to effectively work with individuals both inside and outside of the company.
  • Strong team skills enabling effective interaction with the entire organization.
  • Advanced computer skills with MS Office, accounting software, and databases (QuickBooks required, Sage Intacct a plus).
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Experience with financial reporting requirements.
  • Experience in the construction industry or related fields preferred.
