Brief Description
The Senior Filmmaker is responsible for the ideation, planning, development, production and distribution of audio and visual communications that support and promote major gift fundraising and donor engagement at the Texas A&M Foundation. This experienced and talented filmmaker is responsible for visually communicating stories of donor impact in a professional and engaging way. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Visual Media.
Essential Functions & Major Responsibilities
As a nonprofit organization, the Texas A&M Foundation is the primary academic fundraising institution for Texas A&M charged with raising and managing gifts of all types and sizes, with a focus on major gift endowments. We invest these gifts and disburse part of the investment earnings for the purposes designated by donors. In this way, endowments remain forever and continually benefit Texas A&M University.
Our team of passionate professionals partners with former students, corporations and other supporters who want to lead by example and match their charitable passions with opportunities for purposeful philanthropy at Texas A&M. Gifts create scholarships, advance faculty endeavors, enhance student programs, and fund college programs and campus construction. Collectively, these investments greatly enhance Texas A&M’s mission to provide the highest quality undergraduate and graduate programs and develop new understandings through research and creativity. The Senior Filmmaker is responsible for the ideation, planning, development, production and distribution of audio and visual communications that support and promote major gift fundraising and donor engagement at the Texas A&M Foundation. This experienced and talented filmmaker is responsible for visually communicating stories of donor impact in a professional and engaging way. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Visual Media.
Essential Functions & Major Responsibilities
- Create compelling video content from conceptualization through execution for Foundation use on websites, at events, and on social sites as part of the marketing strategy.
- Oversee all aspects of camera operation, including handling, maintenance, and repair of equipment, as well as loading and unloading gear on and off location, while maintaining the integrity of the production van and studio stage.
- Assist in full project production of a wide variety of videos for the Texas A&M Foundation including fundraising, and marketing campaign videos, and short form documentaries.
- Assist with enhancing the brand and enabling gift officers.
- Manage the technical aspects of a video set including confidently rigging lighting and help create sets in pre-production.
- Work with the post-production team to ensure the desired effects are preserved and that the mood of the videos is maintained.
- Conduct research and evaluate prospective film and photography locations including availability, props, sun position and weather conditions.
- Select and source required equipment, tools, and crew members for filming and photography projects.
- Scout locations and capture test shots to determine the angles, filers, framing, equipment, lighting, and techniques that will be used to create the desired atmosphere for the project.
- Train internal team and student workers to safely use new and modified equipment.
- Collaborate with creative team to provide ideas and insight for video opportunities.
- Stay knowledgeable of advances in the film industry and attend workshops and training sessions.
- Expand network and develop relationship with industry professionals.
- Assist in developing budget projections and oversee budget purchases for equipment, rental costs and repair expenses.
- Manage and oversee the budget for all equipment purchases, rental and repairs.
- Serve as audio/video communications expert providing advice on content, usage, technical aspects, and cost.
- Take and edit photos for our various publications and manage requests and equipment.
- Oversee the organization of all equipment on the production van and studio stage, ensuring efficient loading and unloading of gear, and maintaining the overall cleanliness and organization of the space.
- Photograph still images for internal staff portraits and other projects as assigned.
- Manage the work of staff or student workers as assigned.
- Assist in filming for live event coverage.
- Assist with day-to-day administrative departmental operations related to duties (e.g., processing invoices and logging database marketing contacts).
- Contribute to team effectiveness through knowledge-sharing and proactively identifying process improvements.
- Participate in the establishment and attainment of personal, departmental, divisional, and organizational goals and objectives in support of the mission, vision, and goals of the Foundation.
- Perform special projects and initiatives as assigned.
- Demonstrate the attributes and behaviors of a Passionate Professional Dedicated to Purposeful Philanthropy.
- Embody the Aggie Core Values and the Foundation's Mission, Vision & Guiding Principles.
- Minimum four (4) years of work experience in media production, including cinematography or video production.
- Experience shooting with professional and/or cinema camera equipment.
- Experience with audio equipment and lighting for video production, both on-location and in-studio.
- Extensive knowledge of video editing software, (e.g., Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, After Effects).
- Experience with preparing and posting digital media online.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and work under pressure to meet deadlines with limited supervision in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment.
- Baccalaureate degree in broadcast journalism, cinematography, media production or similar field preferred.
- Understanding of academic college or university setting.
