To help facilitate our expanding business, RMS Energy is currently seeking a Senior Field Service Technician to join our dynamic and fast-growing team. Our Senior Field Service Technicians lead and perform testing, maintenance and repair of low and medium voltage circuit breakers, transformers, switchgear, motor control and other electrical apparatus in the shop and in the field. This role will also support engineering design projects in the fashion of wiring/testing/commissioning relay and switchgear upgrades.

Preferred Locations: Ohio, Michigan, Oklahoma, or nearby locations.

Responsibilities

  • Have a thorough understanding of safe work practices in the electrical industry.
  • Strong theoretical understanding of electric power systems and operation.
  • Be familiar and experienced with the complexities of data center environments.
  • Inspect, test, troubleshoot, and perform start-up of low and medium voltage electrical systems up to 15kV.
  • Test low and medium voltage circuit breakers, transformers, MV cable, switchgear, and motor controllers.
  • Utilize and accurately read meters and test equipment.
  • Must have a strong proficiency in reading and interpreting schematics and wiring drawings.
  • Accurately prepare test reports with details of tests, maintenance, and repairs performed.
  • Lead field crew effectively, planning and assigning work to ensure efficient operations and adherence to project specifications.
  • Maintain and enforce safety standards, ensuring compliance with industry and company regulations and fostering a culture of safety excellence throughout all field operations.
  • Proficient and knowledgeable with the use of hand tools.
  • Must be experienced with most major test equipment software.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 5-10 years of related experience in power plants, industrial services, primary power distribution and related protection and control schemes.
  • High school diploma or GED; associate degree in electrical engineering technology preferred.
  • Licensures and Certifications: NETA 2, 3, or 4 preferred.
  • Experienced utilizing Power DB to accurately and consistently document is a plus.
  • Previous experience testing electro-mechanical and solid-state relays and meters is a plus.
  • Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Employs professional and effective communication in dealing with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Has a strong work ethic and be able to independently resolve project issues if needed.
  • Manages time efficiently with the ability to work and prioritize multiple projects with competing deadlines.
  • Self-driven and exhibits the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, business acumen, and management ability.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook).
  • Extensive knowledge of electrical systems, wiring, and all necessary equipment.

Other Requirements

  • Ability to work remotely.
  • Up to 30% travel required, with flexibility for overtime, extended hours, and occasional work on nights, weekends, and holidays. Availability for increased travel and hours may be necessary during peak seasons.
  • Valid and current Driver’s license with clean driving record.

Working Conditions

This job requires the ability to respond to 24/7 call outs and to work extended hours, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed. Work may be conducted outdoors in all weather conditions, near low-, medium-, and high-voltage equipment and heavy machinery, in areas with elevations in excess of 100 feet, and confined spaces adhering to strict safety protocols. Exposure to loud noises from machinery is common, necessitating the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). This job involves risk of electrical shock. This job requires frequent travel between RMS facilities and customer sites.

Physical Requirements

The position demands physical mobility to navigate uneven surfaces, the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly, fine motor skills for handling small components and tools, and the capability to climb ladders and work at heights. Sustained physical effort, including standing, bending, pushing, digging, pulling, kneeling, crawling and reaching for extended periods, is required. Good vision, including color vision and depth perception, and the ability to hear alarms and communications in noisy environments are essential. Additionally, proficiency in speaking, hearing, reading, and typing in English is required for effective communication and documentation.
