Senior Exhibit Developer

Reports to: Associate Director of Exhibit Development

The Senior Exhibit Developer defines and advocates for the story and visitor experience, determining the project’s interpretive strategies and ensuring content is clear, concise, and compelling. As a core project team member, the Senior Exhibit Developer contributes their creative voice, narrative and content expertise, and knowledge of effective visitor experience design to identify client goals and drive exhibit development in collaboration with the creative team. The Senior Exhibit Developer must have demonstrated experience on large exhibition projects translating complex topics simply and effectively into experiences that are engaging, attractive, functional, and balance multiple needs (visitor, institution, etc). The Senior Exhibit Developer must embrace multi-disciplinary collaboration, be an excellent verbal and written communicator, and capable of working on a variety of activities in parallel both collaboratively and independently.

 

Essential Job Functions

 

Experience Development

  • Drive development of the high-level storyline and visitor experience, including creation of the Big Idea, conceptual bubble diagrams, visitor flow, and experience overview, and experience narrative.
  • Conceive graphic, digital, tactile, environmental, and interactive methods of engaging visitors with the exhibit story
  • Develop exhibit elements and document them for coordination, presentation, and further development across multiple mediums, including: content maps, interactive wireframes, artifact matrixes, image research lists, infographic diagrams, and more. 
  • Lead collaboration with digital media partners
  • Advocate for the effective and consistent implementation of visitor experience and interpretive goals throughout all project phases, including reviewing work in a variety of mediums (graphics, shop drawings, digital prototypes, etc.)


Interpretive Planning

  • Identify client goals and aspirations for the experience, within exhibitions and across multiple audience platforms
  • Create exhibit frameworks and other relevant documentation to define goals, messages, and interpretive strategies
  • Write conceptual exhibit briefs and descriptions


Content Development

  • Develop work plans for content development process, internally and with client
  • Conduct research with clients and through primary and secondary sources 
  • Develop and maintain content outlines
  • Write, proofread, and comment on exhibit label copy, media and interactive scripts, and other interpretive content, including project-related marketing language
  • Manage exhibit label writing process including defining scope, management of external writers, facilitation of review process, and oversight of client feedback


Facilitation/Communication

  • Facilitate collaborative work internally and with client to develop exhibit storyline and visitor experience
  • Facilitator and point of contact for working relationships with content experts (client, subcontractors, and subject matter experts)
  • Primary point of contact with client for client interpretive asset management (artifacts, images, etc.)
  • Lead planning and facilitation of community engagement, public audience prototyping, and exhibit evaluation
  • Create presentation materials and related assets that communicate creative work to the client, funders, and public audiences, and lead presentations with those audiences

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

  • 8-10+ years relevant experience in exhibit development experience design, or interpretive planning, with minimum of 5+ years on large museum projects 
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentational communication skills
  • Excellence in translating content into visitor experiences
  • Demonstrated research and writing ability for a variety of audiences
  • Ability to interface and facilitate work flow between clients and vendors simultaneously
  • Ability to work both independently and with interdisciplinary teams
  • Ability to work under pressure with flexibility
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Strong time management skills
  • Excellent attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy
  • Self-initiative to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Understanding of confidentiality and protocol



Work Life:

Luci Creative is composed largely of local staff with a hybrid schedule of in-person and remote work. Given the responsibilities of this role, we anticipate at least 3+ days in-office weekly will be necessary to effectively complete responsibilities. We value the collaboration, creativity, mentorship, and learning that comes from being in the same workspace with your team. We also value flexibility, and understand that some work is done best at home or in an otherwise remote environment away from the office.
