Overview
Our software team develops the next-generation applications that change how millions of fans connect, explore, and interact with Major League Soccer and with one another. This role will lead critical client and backend software engineering teams to improve fan engagement and experience.
This is a high-impact role responsible for managing and leading a world class team of engineers building scalable software for web and mobile app as well as backend services powering those applications.
You will be accountable for leading and growing the software engineering team to build client side and backend services.
Responsibilities
Starting Base Salary: $170,000 – $235,000. MLS/SUM base salaries are contingent upon several factors including individual qualifications, market financials, and operational business needs.

You will be accountable for leading and growing the software engineering team to build client side and backend services.
Responsibilities
- Lead Major League Soccer’s software engineering group, composed of client-side engineering website & mobile app and highly scalable backend services and APIs.
- Work cross disciplinary with product, business, operation, and security teams to translate the requirements to an execution plan, timelines, and to strive for greater functionality in our software systems.
- Build, hire, and manage a high-performing team of software engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning.
- Oversee the software development lifecycle, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet technical and quality standards.
- Continuously evaluate and improve software development processes, methodologies, and tools.
- Manage the software engineering budget responsibly and effectively.
- Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with software development projects.
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- 10+ years related experience (8+ years in technical leadership) full lifecycle software products.
- Proven track record of building and leading high-performing software engineering teams.
- Deep technical expertise in software development for native mobile apps and backend services and APIs.
- Ability to think strategically and translate business goals into technical solutions.
- Passion for building innovative and user-centric software products.
- Hands on experience architecting and deploying microservices, leveraging cloud platforms.
- Experience managing engineering teams including public branding to attract high-caliber people, recruiting, hiring, internships, running hackathons, and performance management.
- Lead integration of technical components with other teams as necessary.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
- High-level dedication to a quality work product and organizational ethics, integrity, and compliance.
- Superior organization, project management skills, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast paced, team environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and written.
