Lakewood Center is an industry leading not for profit residential treatment center for adults with serious mental illness. Lakewood Center utilizes an extended care model allowing residents to call lakewood home as long as needed.
Reporting to the CEO, the Senior Director of Development is a key member of the strategic leadership team of the Lakewood Residential Treatment Center. This person is responsible for developing and implementing the Development and Communications strategy for the Lakewood Center to raise and sustain at least $1,100,000- $1,600,000 from the private sector in FY25 and grow annually.
The Senior Director of Development will develop and execute strategic, diversified development plans to raise funds through individual giving, grants, events and institutional partners, such as corporations and foundations.
The ideal candidate is an initiative-taking problem-solver and strategic thinker who is committed to helping advance the mission of the Lakewood Residential Treatment Center, and provide guidance and leadership for the Development team, including a Development Coordinator and interns.
The salary range for this role is 80k to 100k annually, commensurate with experience.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and execute a strategic fundraising plan in collaboration with the CEO and development team to meet fundraising goals.
Cultivate partnerships with corporations and foundations to align with their marketing and philanthropic goals.
Strategize and secure new individual supporters while nurturing existing relationships.
Implement a robust stewardship program to strengthen donor relationships.
Team Leadership:
Lead and mentor the Development Coordinator and interns, fostering their professional growth.
Portfolio Management:
Manage a donor portfolio, focusing on securing major gifts and multi-year commitments.
Cultivate and solicit donations from prospects with a giving capacity of $25,000+, targeting $100,000+ gifts.
Maintain regular and meaningful engagement touchpoints with donors through meetings, calls, and events, on average at least 75-100 per year.
Ensure consistent and up-to-date maintenance of donor records and notes in donor software.
Implement best practices for data management and organization
Board Management:
Engage the Board to meet financial and advocacy goals, serving as a liaison to the Development Committee.
Provide updates and maintain engagement to ensure Board satisfaction and retention.
Events:
Drive strategies to maximize fundraising at large-scale annual events.
Organize smaller events to engage donor communities thoughtfully, to include pickleball tournament or golf tournament type events, Mental health awareness month campaign,etc.
Marketing and Communications:
Lead development content strategy to enhance the Lakewood Center’s brand and connect with key donors.
Work with the marketing and communications team to integrate development content into the Lakewood Center’s overall content calendar. Utilize various channels to increase visibility and community engagement.
Ensure that the Lakewood Center’s website, social media, email and snail mail messages represent the Lakewood Center’s brand and propel fundraising opportunities for the organization forward.
Development Operations:
Support development processes from donor identification to stewardship, ensuring accurate record-keeping.
Conduct monthly pipeline meetings to track progress and identify areas for improvement.
Qualifications
At least 5-7 years of non-profit fundraising experience, gained in a frontline fundraising role.
Direct experience leading a Development program, including team management.
Track record of soliciting and securing six-figure gifts and personally managing a portfolio.
Skilled in working across all levels of employees and stakeholders, including Board members and committees.
Strong interpersonal, networking, and relationship building skills.
Persuasive and professional written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to problem solve, work independently, meet deadlines, and balance multiple high-profile partner priorities simultaneously.
Passion for mental health. Demonstrated knowledge about this sector is a plus.
Flexibility to attend in-person donor meetings, work related events, respond to unpredictable partnership needs, and other duties as assigned, which at times are outside of standard working hours.
Knowledge of high-net-worth and philanthropic community in local and national landscape via business, civic, and cultural networks.
Experience with various Development CRM’s a plus, including donor software (currently Bloomerang)
