Senior Director of Philanthropy

Responsibilities

  • Leads by action and example to advance a culture of positivity, professionalism, trust, transparency, empathy, and excellence at Joybound.
  • Serves as a positive contributing member of Joybound’s leadership team (L-Team)
  • Manages a personal portfolio of more than 80 individuals and, at portfolio maturity, generates at least $1,000,000 annually.
  • Develops and implements metrics-driven fundraising strategies, setting clear goals and performance benchmarks for major gifts, institutional giving, legacy giving, and gift processing.
  • Leads the organization’s major gift fundraising program, including identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewardship of major donors capable of making six-figure plus gifts.
  • Establishes key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of fundraising efforts and regularly reports on progress toward fundraising goals to senior leadership and the Board of Directors.
  • Oversees institutional giving initiatives, tracking and analyzing performance metrics to optimize results.
  • Oversees legacy giving programs, including planned giving campaigns, bequests, and other forms of deferred gifts, with a focus on maximizing donor engagement and legacy commitments.
  • Supervises gift processing operations, ensuring accurate and timely recording of donations, acknowledgment letters, and donor recognition while maintaining data integrity and compliance with industry standards.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the development team, fostering a culture of accountability, performance excellence, and continuous improvement.
  • Partners with program directors and other senior staff to create and generate interdepartmental collaboration to support Joybound priorities.
  • Collaborates with the marketing and communications team to develop compelling fundraising materials, case statements, and donor communications that resonate with target audiences and drive donor engagement.
  • Utilizes moves management techniques to effectively move donors through the donor cycle, leveraging data and analytics to inform cultivation and solicitation strategies.
  • Responsible for creating, managing, and overseeing the development budget.
  • Plans and executes fundraising events, ranging from small donor cultivation events to large-scale galas and donor recognition ceremonies, evaluating event ROI and effectiveness in achieving fundraising objectives.
  • Cultivates and maintains relationships with key stakeholders, including board members, donors, volunteers, and community leaders, leveraging donor data and insights to personalize interactions and deepen donor engagement.
  • Stays abreast of industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in fundraising and philanthropy, integrating innovative approaches and tools to enhance fundraising performance and donor satisfaction.

Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; advanced degree or CFRE certification preferred.
    • Minimum of 7 years of major gift experience in fundraising, including metrics-driven experience and accountability.
    • Demonstrated success in securing six-figure plus gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations, with a track record of meeting or exceeding fundraising targets.
    • Experience developing fundraising strategies and campaign plans.
    • Strong leadership and management skills, with experience supervising a team of fundraising professionals and driving results through data-driven decision-making.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate a compelling case for support and present complex data clearly and concisely.
    • Proficiency in moves management techniques and donor cultivation strategies, with a keen understanding of fundraising analytics and performance metrics.
    • Proven ability to develop and execute strategic fundraising plans to achieve organizational goals, with a focus on maximizing ROI and donor lifetime value.
    • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in gift processing and donor stewardship, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
    • Exceptional problem-solving skills combined with a demonstrated record for the execution of plans and strategies; experience collaborating in a team-oriented environment.
    • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment while managing multiple priorities and driving results through effective project management and prioritization.
    • Knowledge of fundraising software and database management systems, with experience leveraging technology to streamline processes, enhance productivity, and improve data-driven decision-making.
