Moon Juice Senior Director of National Sales

Santa Monica, CA / Full Time / Hybrid (on-site 2 days per week)


Moon Juice is seeking an entrepreneurial and results-driven Senior Director of Sales to lead our Wholesale channel in developing strategies that drive revenue growth and profitability for the brand. Reporting to the CEO, this person will have the unique opportunity to shape and expand Moon Juice’s reach in the world and how we bring our unique products to consumers everywhere. The Senior Director of Sales will oversee our account management, field sales, and training teams and provide strong leadership and guidance to the entire cross-functional team that’s involved in delivering exceptional service and partnership to every wholesale account.


The ideal candidate is equally strategic and process-oriented, able to create business development and sell-in strategies that support the company’s overall goals while systematizing the processes for executing them, step-by-step. The ideal candidate has worked with premium retailers, e-tailers, and distributors of Vitamins, Minerals, and Supplements and has a proven track record of driving year-over-year sales growth with existing accounts through successful partnership strategies based on merchandising and marketing initiatives. The successful candidate will expand Moon Juice into new sectors and partner closely with our Marketing, Creative, and Digital teams to deliver an integrated consumer-centric strategy that generates interest in the brand across all points of distribution.


As a member of the senior leadership team, the Senior Director of Sales must be a positive cultural leader who exhibits confidence balanced with humility and a growth mindset. This person is inclusive, collaborative, and transparent and will build strong relationships at all levels, internally and externally. Excellent communication skills and empathy are a must, and this person enjoys mentoring team members across all functions and levels.


Moon Juice HQ is based in Santa Monica, CA and requires in-office collaboration 2 days per week.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all efforts related to sell-in and sell-through with major retailers and specialty accounts.
  • Manage the Wholesale P&L: drive gross sales, oversee ROI on marketing and promos, and closely monitor returns and deductions to optimize the profitability of each account.
  • Develop comprehensive strategies to expand into new retail sectors and geographical markets, lead business development efforts, and secure new accounts. Analyze consumer segments and competitive sets within target sectors and accounts and determine how to best position Moon Juice for success.Monitor VMS trends by market to identify new sales opportunities.
  • Track health of business on a weekly basis to ensure sales targets are met with existing accounts. Partner with accounts to improve performance through different tactics such as events, trainings, sales incentive campaigns, visual merchandising, and inventory optimization.
  • Establish and cultivate strong relationships with key personnel within retailer and distributor partners to drive sales and secure optimal retail placement. Travel for occasional trade shows, sales conferences, and store visits.
  • Lead a high-performing sales team, setting clear goals and expectations, and fostering a collaborative and motivated work environment. Support the Director of Field Sales and Training (a direct report) to develop and implement strategies to maximize field sales productivity, including setting KPIs and performance targets.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams in Marketing, Creative, and Digital to align on sales and marketing strategies. Ensure a strong and consistent brand presence in retail marketing initiatives across brick and mortar and ecommerce wholesale channels.
  • Work closely with Finance and Ops teams to provide input on budgeting, sales planning, risk assessment, and inventory management.
  • Create and optimize processes to increase effectiveness for onboarding new accounts, sell-in pitches, deductions and RTVs.


Core Skills and Qualifications

  • 10+ years of business development, sales, and account management experience in the VMS industry, with a minimum of 2 years of experience managing a team of 3 or more individuals.
  • Expertise in the premium natural grocery space, with a proven track record of building a brand’s distribution network. Must have established relationships with key accounts in North America, international accounts a plus.
  • Versatility and ability to adapt to different accounts’ needs and styles to best represent Moon Juice across different lifestyle categories including Health and Wellness, Fitness, and Beauty.
  • Proficiency in sales analytics and delivering data-driven strategies and decision-making.
  • Experience with a multi-channel brand, able to navigate the complex business challenges and competing demands involved in DTC, wholesale, ecommerce, and brick-and-mortar retailing.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • High degree of professionalism, integrity, and collaborative abilities. Positive driving force for unifying cross-functional stakeholders to achieve shared goals.
  • A solution-oriented mindset with superior problem-solving skills focused on root causes.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment. Able to manage competing priorities with thoroughness while driving continuous improvements to meet the needs of a high-growth business.
